  • Patent number: 8851227
Abstract: A bearing assembly is for a mechanism including a housing and a rotatable shaft disposed within the housing. The bearing assembly includes a sleeve disposable within the housing and having an inner circumferential surface defining a bore and a radial surface extending radially inwardly from the inner surface. A bearing is disposed within the bore and includes inner and outer races and rolling elements disposed between the races, the inner race being coupleable with the shaft such that the shaft and the inner race rotate as a single unit. Further, a biasing member biases the outer race generally against the sleeve radial surface or a housing radial surface to prevent axial displacement of the outer race during shaft rotation. Preferably, a retainer couples the biasing member with the outer race to retain the bearing and the biasing member within the bore when the assembly is separate from the housing.

  • Patent number: 8851757
Abstract: A bearing unit has an axis of rotation and a stationary ring and a rotatable ring, these rings being coaxial with each other and axially delimited on one side by respective axial surfaces which are transverse to the axis. An encoder is fixed to an outer cylindrical surface of the inner ring, and a protective cover is mounted on the outer ring to protect the encoder and to close off a space formed between the two rings. The axial surface of the outer ring and the protective cover jointly delimit a compartment for housing the encoder that is positioned substantially outside the space and that extends radially from the outer cylindrical surface to a boundary in the proximity of an outer cylindrical surface of the outer ring.

  • Patent number: 8851481
Abstract: A seal for sealing a space between a shaft and a housing, includes a base member coupled with one of the housing and the shaft and a generally annular, elastomeric sealing member sealingly contactable with the other one of the housing and the shaft. The sealing member is coupled with the base member such that the sealing member is circumferentially strained to reduce friction between the sealing member and the other one of the housing and the shaft. The seal assembly is preferably formed by providing a base member having a generally annular carrier portion and a generally annular, elastomeric sealing member, coupling the sealing member with the annular portion of the base member, and plastically deforming at least a section of the base member carrier portion such that the sealing member is circumferentially strained.
