Abstract: An antenna system is provided in a portable electronics device having a printed circuit board assembly. The antenna system includes a first antenna and a second balanced antenna provided on the printed circuit board assembly. The first antenna is fed from a portion of the printed circuit board assembly such that a ground plane of the printed circuit board assembly serves as a counterpoise for the first antenna. The second balanced antenna has dipole ends configured and oriented to generally minimize coupling to the ground plane of the printed circuit board assembly to increase isolation between the first antenna and the second balanced antenna.

  • Publication number: 20110050528
Abstract: An antenna system supports a common resonance mode and differential resonance mode, each with approximately equal radiation resistance and bandwidth at a given operating frequency band. The antenna system includes a resonant antenna section, a counterpoise, and two antenna ports. The resonant antenna section includes two spaced-apart poles and a distributed network therebetween. Each of the poles has a proximal end connected to the distributed network and an opposite distal end. The distal ends of the poles are separated from each other by a distance of ? to ? of the electrical wavelength at the given operating frequency. Each of the two antenna ports is defined by a pair of feed terminals with one feed terminal located on the counterpoise and the other feed terminal located on a different one of the poles of the resonant antenna section.

  • Patent number: 7834813
Abstract: An antenna for a communications device having configurable elements controlled to modify an antenna impedance and/or an antenna resonant frequency to improve performance of the communications device. The antenna impedance is controlled to substantially match to an output impedance of a power amplifier that supplies the antenna with a signal for transmission. The antenna resonant frequency is controlled to overcome the effects of various operating conditions that can detune the antenna or in response to an operable frequency band.

  • Publication number: 20100156726
Abstract: A multi-port antenna structure for a wireless-enabled communications device includes a coupler-antenna having a first antenna port for transmitting electromagnetic signals and a second antenna port for receiving electromagnetic signals. The coupler-antenna is positioned on a chassis of the wireless enabled communications device to transmit energy between the chassis and the first and second antenna ports. Resonant modes of the chassis for one antenna port are orthogonal to resonant modes of the chassis for the other antenna port, such that the first and second antenna ports are isolated from each other.

  • Publication number: 20100156747
Abstract: A multi-port antenna structure includes a plurality of electrically conductive elements arranged generally symmetrically about a central axis with a gap between adjacent electrically conductive elements. Each of the electrically conductive elements has opposite ends and a bent middle portion therebetween, with the bent middle portion being closer to the central axis than the opposite ends.
