Abstract: A fixture is sized to be inserted into an electrical junction box having a socket. The fixture has a plug with conductive terminals that are mateable with the socket to connect the fixture to an electrical signal connected to the socket. An end of the fixture with the plug is inserted into the junction box to mate with the socket. A release latch extends from the plug so that an end of the latch is not recessed within the junction box, and can be pushed to release the plug and fixture for removal. The socket is attached to extension arms that are attachable to the junction box, so that the socket can be positioned at the correct height within the box to properly mate with the plug of the fixture after insertion.

Abstract: A quick connect plug and socket connect an electrical fixture to an electrical socket. The socket has concentric ring-shaped openings with adjacent internal contact terminals which are electrically connected to an electrical power supply wiring. The plug is insertable into the socket and has ring-shaped connectors that mate with the contact terminals within the socket. The plug and socket become latched when mated, and a latch release is pushed to allow them to be separated. A housing encloses portions of the plug and encloses a plurality of peripheral LEDs. A peripheral lens attached to the housing allows light from the LEDs to pass. The intensity and color of the LEDs are controlled by an electronic circuit based upon a signal. The latch release moves transversely to a central axis extending through the concentric rings, so that it can be pressed when the plug and socket are within an enclosing canopy.

Abstract: A quick-connect plug and socket for mechanically and electrically attaching an electrical fixture. The plug has a spindle insertable into a bore of the socket to mechanically engage the plug and socket. An electrical connection forms between ring-shaped conductors on the plug that insert into ring-shaped openings in the socket to engage contacts within the socket. The plug body includes an extension extending from a side of the body to the spindle. The extension has a channel and slot, through which an electrical cord with wires inserts without threading the cord through the extension. The cord turns away from the extension to lie in a channel in the body and extend to a periphery of the body, to then connect to electrical terminals of the body. A removable cover covers the cord in the channel, the terminals, and the portion of wire that passes from the periphery to the terminals.

Abstract: A known quick connect electrical connector has plug which has a spindle through which a rod is passed. Metal balls are contained within the spindle and can be pushed radially outwardly by a widened portion of the rod to lock the spindle to a passage in a corresponding socket. To separate the plug and socket, the rod must be pushed to move the widened portion away from the balls. To accomplish this, a cam follower is attached to the rod. Slide supports are attached to the plug. A lever slides within the slide supports and has a cam surface which pushes the cam follower when the lever is slid within the slide supports. When the cam follower is pushed, it moves the rod to enable the metal balls to move radially inwards to release the plug from the socket.

Abstract: Electrical connectors and fixtures, and more particularly, electrical plug and socket combinations allowing quick connection and mounting of electrical fixtures are provided with a disinfection feature for disinfecting air and/or surfaces. Additionally, lighting fixtures include or are retrofitted to provide both lighting and disinfection functions. The disinfection feature can be provided by any suitable source of UV radiation, such as an LED array. The emitted UV radiation is UV-A or FAR UV-C so that disinfection can occur regardless of whether a human is exposed to the emitted UV radiation or the emitted UV radiation is UV-C so that disinfection should only occur if there is no human exposure to the emitted UV radiation. Some electrical connectors and fixture can provide both types of emitted UV radiation, which are selectively actuatable.

Abstract: An electrical fixture has a plug or socket of the type including concentric terminal rings, the plug having a spindle that is releasably receivable within a central channel of the socket to form a latch. Either the plug or the socket is attached to a hub having peripheral electrical connectors. Modules can be connected to the hub by the peripheral electrical connectors, the modules including electrical components each having one or more features. The modules are selectable for desired features, including transmitting and receiving, or sensing a condition in the environment, such as a security camera, glass breakage detector, motion/presence detector, and lighting. The hub can include a central circuit board which is electrically connected to the peripherally attached modules. The hub is further connected to electrical wiring of the edifice within which the fixture is installed.
