Publication number: 20220054301Abstract: An oral appliance that is placed in a user's mouth. An upper tray is designed to engage with a user's maxillary teeth, and a lower tray is designed to engage with a user's mandibular teeth. Thermal impression material may be designed into at least one of the trays to engage the upper and lower dentition. Two side straps mechanisms are designed to connect the upper and lower trays, and may provide forward positioning of the lower jaw relative to the upper jaw. A ramped lingual shelf may be included on the inside portion of the lower tray, to position a user's tongue forward and upward. The upper tray has an open section in its anterior portion which provides additional space for a forward-positioned tongue. Patent number: 8646455Abstract: The invention is an oral appliance for prevention of sleeping problems including snoring, sleep apnea and bruxism, and may also be used to protect the teeth and gums from surgical instruments during surgery. Specifically, the appliance alters the position of the user's mandible, which is known as a method for reducing the restriction of the flow of air through the pharyngeal passageway. The appliance is a one-piece device molded from a flexible polymer. It includes an upper maxillary tray and a lower mandibulary tray. Both upper and lower trays include inner and outer walls which increase contact area with the teeth. The hinge mechanism of the device includes a positive positioning system comprised of opposed interlocking ridges. The ridges serve to create offset between the position of the upper tray and lower tray relative to each other, therefore advancing the user's mandible.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2012Date of Patent: February 11, 2014Assignee: Sleeping Well LLCInventors: Daniel Webster, Larry Carlberg, Avery Lieberman, John Herald

Patent number: 8166976Abstract: The invention is an oral appliance for prevention of sleeping problems including snoring, sleep apnea and bruxism. Specifically, the appliance alters the position of the user's mandible, which is known as a method for reducing the restriction of the flow of air through the pharyngeal passageway. The appliance is a one-piece device molded from a flexible polymer such as KratonĀ®. It includes an upper maxillary tray and a lower mandibulary tray. Both upper and lower trays include inner and outer walls which increase contact area with the teeth. The hinge mechanism of the device includes a positive positioning system comprised of opposed interlocking ridges. The ridges serve to create offset between the position of the upper tray and lower tray relative to each other, therefore advancing the user's mandible. Additional features include airflow posts to keep the mouthpiece from sealing completely, a cleft contour, and a tooth retention tab.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2009Date of Patent: May 1, 2012Assignee: Sleeping Well LLCInventors: Daniel Webster, Larry Carlberg, Avery Lieberman
