Publication number: 20120191240Abstract: Methods and apparatus for removing an item from a conveyor system are provided. In some aspects, an escapement assembly includes a sensor system configured to detect a target item of a plurality of items on a feed conveyor of a conveyor system. The feed conveyor is configured to facilitate transport of the plurality of items to a first location. The escapement assembly also includes an escape conveyor configured to couple to a body of the conveyor system such that at least a portion of the escape conveyor is above the feed conveyor. The escapement assembly also includes a delivery assembly configured to pick the target item from the feed conveyor and to place the target item onto the escape conveyor. The escape conveyor is configured to facilitate transport of the target item to a second location different from the first location.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 25, 2012Publication date: July 26, 2012Applicant: SMART MOTION ROBOTICS, INC.Inventor: Scott C. Publication number: 20090320417Abstract: An end of arm tool that is capable of handling fragile items such as eggs that are packaged in containers (e.g., egg cartons) that require special handling is provided. The end of arm tool comprises pivotal clamps operated by sliding-contact linear actuators and return springs. A retractable gripper for placing divider sheets between packages in the cases may be disposed above the clamps and oriented 90 degrees from the clamps, so that the clamps and gripper may be attached to the same tool without either obstructing the operation of the other. In addition, a method of loading packages, and optionally divider sheets, into cases using the end of arm tool apparatus of the present invention is provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 2, 2009Publication date: December 31, 2009Applicant: SMART MOTION ROBOTICS, Inc.Inventor: Scott C. Patent number: 6632060Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for pre-registering boards for use in, for example, the manufacture of looseleaf binders and packaging products. Boards are dropped onto the base plate by an automatic process. Spine guides enable the spine portion of the boards to be secured for subsequent registering. The movement of the spine guides allows the spine portion of the boards to be placed accurately. The spine guides are attached to a spine guide rack which is located on the underside of the base plate. The spine guide rack operates through the use of pneumatic cylinders and enables the movement of the attached spine guides. The spine guides move along a spine guide trench and secure boards on the base plate. The spine guides are retracted when the boards are initially placed on the base plate and then start moving medially to squeeze the spine portion of the board such that it becomes perpendicular to the x-axis.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2001Date of Patent: October 14, 2003Assignee: Smart Motion Robotics, Inc.Inventors: Scott Gilmore, Jason Ernst
