    Abstract: A system and method for designing a stitched object, the system and method including: determining a style; determining a size; determining a stitch material; automatically calculating a grid-based template based on the determined style, size and stitch material; and outputting the grid-based template to a user as a design for the stitched object. The system and method also allow for an automatic change in gauge, for example, due to changes in patterns (motifs, stitch types or the like), yarns, user gauge, or the like.
