Below the plate, the contacts in each pair are interconnected by a conductor embraced by a toroidal current transformer. Four mounting bolts project from the upper surface of the plate so that the assembly can be connected to cooperating contacts on an equipment panel. The lower surface of the plate is enclosed by a housing.

The suction lumen opens internally to the main lumen through a series of holes, which increase in size towards the patient end of the tube. Towards the machine end of the tube, the suction lumen is connected to a suction source by which suction is applied to the suction lumen to remove secretions that collect inside the tube.

    Abstract: An epidural filter has a planar housing with a flat lower surface taped to the patient's skin. An outlet at one end of the housing is connected to the epidural catheter and opens onto the lower surface of the filter element. The inlet at the other end of the housing is shaped to receive the nose of a syringe and opens onto the upper surface of the filter element. The inlet is either fixed at an angle of about 30.degree. to the lower surface of the housing, or can be displaced upwardly to such an angle by means of a resilient portion, to facilitate connection to the inlet.

The processor switches on the fan when certain temperature and humidity conditions are met. The processor turns on the fan in response to an increase in temperature and humidity, a larger increase in humidity being required for a smaller increase in temperature. The fan is also turned on when humidity rises above a certain threshold value, which is lower for higher temperatures.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to a valve for a resuscitator apparatus including a resuscitator bag and a reservoir bag. The valve is mounted in a coupling between the two bags. The valve comprises a reed flapper in a housing, the reed flapper having one side exposed to the interior pressure and another side exposed to the ambient pressure. The reed flapper is movable in response to a higher interior or ambient pressure (a pressure differential), to open a housing port to allow flow out of or in to the reservoir bag interior. The valve further includes a biasing part to increase the opening pressure differential in one direction or the other.

    Abstract: PCA apparatus has a container with a movable piston dividing the container into a lower chamber for medication liquid and an upper, air-filled chamber. A manually-actuated air pump is connected to the upper chamber so that air can be supplied to the upper chamber to displace the piston and discharge the liquid through a catheter. The air pump has a cylinder containing a plunger with a capillary inlet, to limit the rate at which air can flow into the cylinder and hence be pumped to the upper chamber. The lower chamber is filled through a removable inlet spike connector by pulling up the piston with an actuating rod projecting from the upper end of the container. The rod is frangible so that it can be removed after filling the lower chamber.

A check valve assembly is connected in the first line and in a second line extending from the pump to a tank. A shuttle member in the check valve assembly is displaced by fluid pressure in the second line when the pump is reversed to unseat the ball and allow flow from the cylinder in the opposite direction via the pump to the tank.

A compressible gap extends from the collar to the edge of the plate and this is compressed, so that the collar grips the tube or mask, by fastening openings in the plate onto projections from the introducer. Alternatively, the securing device has a clip with two spaced engagement members so that the gap is squeezed closed by clipping the engagement members between two arms of the introducer.

    Abstract: A fluid coupling has a male part that can be mated with a female part. The female part has an O-ring seal that seals with the outside of the male part. A helical retaining ring is located in a groove in the female part and engages behind a shoulder projecting from the male part. The groove has an inclined wall so that a withdrawing force applied to the male part causes the retaining ring to be forced into closer contact with the male part. A release ring extends around the female part at its forward end and is urged forwardly by a resilient wave washer. The release ring engages the retaining ring when it is pushed rearwardly so that the retaining ring is held away from the inclined wall enabling it to be expanded by the shoulder when the male part is withdrawn.
