  • Patent number: 11918410
Abstract: An echogenic needle may have at least one V-shaped spiral groove formed at its distal portion adjacent to its patient end. The walls of the groove are orthogonal to each other. The groove is titled at a given angle from a neutral position toward the proximal end of the needle so that when the needle is inserted into the patient at an insertion angle under ultrasound imaging, the ultrasound wave emitted from the ultrasound transducer is reflected in a substantially reverse direction back to the transducer by at least one wall of the spiral groove. A pair of crisscrossing grooves may be spirally wound about the distal portion of the needle with each groove being tilted to the given angle to enhance echogeneity. The echogeneity of the needle may also be enhanced by increasing the pitch density of each groove while maintaining the crisscrossing groves at their neutral position.

  • Patent number: 11783933
Abstract: An identifier is provided to a medical device such as a syringe to uniquely identify the medical device. For a syringe, the unique identifier may be in the form of a bar code printed onto the thumb press, stem, or both at the plunger of the syringe. The bar code may be a 2-dimensional bar code or a 1-dimensional bar code. Alternatively, an RFID tag may be attached to the plunger, for example fitted to or embedded into the thumb press. The unique identifier provides, at minimum, the manufacturing data unique to the syringe so that the history of the syringe may be readily traced and associated with the medical records of the patient the syringe is used for.

  • Patent number: 11712543
Abstract: An access device for placing a medical article within a body space includes a syringe, a needle, and a sheath which are employed together with a guide wire. The sheath can be coaxially and slideably disposed about the needle. During insertion of the sheath over the needle, guide wire and into the body space, the syringe provides a negative pressure to ensure that any air located between the inside diameter of the sheath and the outside diameter of the needle is drawn into the needle rather than into the body space. In certain embodiments, a dilator is coaxially and slideably disposed about the needle and within the sheath.

  • Publication number: 20230191101
Abstract: A port is adapted to be implanted to a body with its top exposed to the environment. The port has a housing defining a chamber that has an opening at the top of the housing. An aperture having a lumen attached thereto is formed at the lower portion of the chamber. For infusion, an insert that has an internal passageway that connects a fluid inlet at its top surface and a bore at its sidewall is sealingly mated to the chamber. The bore sealingly aligns with the aperture. After infusion, the insert is removed, and a blank insert is fitted to the chamber. A band of tissue ingrowth media encircles the housing to form an aseptic barrier where the outer wall of the housing and the tissue of the body encircling the housing meet.
