Patents Assigned to Smith Sport Optics, Inc.
  • Patent number: 6416177
Abstract: The invention is directed towards an apparatus for mounting and retaining a protective film that shields the surface of protective lens from vision-impairing accumulations of dust, mud, or other opaque materials. More particularly, the present invention is directed to a film retaining apparatus for use with a goggle with a renewable protective surface that offers increased film interchangeability. In one embodiment, the apparatus is comprised of spool for retaining the protective film having a spool end that is adapted to engage a film advancing mechanism in a first group of goggles, and an opposing spool end adapted to engage a film advancing mechanism in a second group of goggles. In another embodiment, the spool ends are removably coupled to a center cylindrical spool portion that retains the film to advantageously permit various engagement configurations to be used.

  • Patent number: 6119276
Abstract: A sport goggle and a system for ventilating a sport goggle is shown and described. The sport goggle has a strap, a lens structure, and a frame having a first edge extending laterally across the wearer's forehead. The first edge is shaped such that a portion of the first edge is curved in a concave up direction when the sport goggle is in a position of use, and such that, when the sport goggle is worn in combination with a helmet, one or more gaps are created between the first edge and a second edge on the front of the helmet. The first edge has a first opening located to allow air to flow into the goggle chamber. Increased goggle ventilation through the first opening can be caused by either the concave up portion of the first edge, or the gaps between the first and second edges.

  • Patent number: 5542130
Abstract: A ventilation adjustment assembly is provided for a goggle having a ventilated lens mounted in a frame. In one embodiment, the lens has one or more ventilation apertures forming a linear or curved path. An elongated shutter housing is formed by a base having pair of parallel sidewalls or spacers mounted on the lens on opposite sides of and in close proximity to the path of lens apertures. One or more apertures on the base align with the lens apertures. An elongated shutter is slidably disposed in the shutter housing. The shutter has one or more apertures which are alignable with apertures in the base and lens. By sliding the shutter within its housing, ventilation air flow is regulated as the shutter apertures move in and out of alignment with the base and lens apertures.
