Abstract: A needle assembly has a needle hub that has a body to which are formed two plates at opposite sides thereof in a parallel relationship. The plates have respective upper edges and lower edges that lie substantially along respective planes, so that the needle hub may be stably placed onto a surface by means of the respective edges. A partition is formed orthogonally proximate to the front ends of the parallel plates. The partition and the parallel plates together provide upper and lower three point stable supports for the needle hub. A notch at the partition provides a guided line of sight to the tip of the needle for the user. The connector at the proximal portion of the needle hub has a non-conventional configuration that allows it to mate only with a counterpart special connector of a fluid conveying device that has a complementary non-conventional configuration.

  • Patent number: 10080867
Abstract: A catheter assembly includes a catheter hub defining an interior cavity and a catheter tube extending distally thereof. A rigid actuator is positioned to extend proximally in the interior cavity and support a seal member positioned thereon in the interior cavity. The seal member includes a central membrane, a distal portion, and a proximal portion. An hourglass shaped actuator cavity is formed in the distal portion and receives a barbed end of the actuator. The outer surface of the seal member is in partial circumferential engagement with the catheter hub to define an air path that allows fluid communication between areas of the interior cavity distal and proximal of the seal member. The seal member may be configured for multi-use and include a biasing member that moves the seal member to force the membrane back over the actuator to close the membrane.

  • Patent number: 10076608
Abstract: An overload protection method and apparatus for a medicament syringe pump force sensor. A dome switch is employed with force sensor components of a medicament pump. The dome switch collapses at overload pressures, isolating the force sensor from pump driving forces that exceed the force sensor limit. An alarm signal can be triggered by the overload, and initiate pump shut down.

  • Publication number: 20180256825
Abstract: The present invention safety device is a one-piece needle assembly that has a base and a housing pivotally connected to the base. The base has a distal portion to which a needle is fitted. At the base there is formed longitudinally along its distal portion a catch mechanism that may be in the form of an anchor projection. At the back wall of the housing there is extended another catch mechanism that may be configured in the form of two clasping fingers. Also providing in the housing is an integral hook. As the housing and the base are pivoted relative to each other, and as the needle makes contact with the hook, the respective catch mechanisms at the base and the housing also make contact with each other, resulting in the coupling of the catch mechanisms and the coupling of the needle to the hook. As a result, the catch mechanisms are interlocked and the needle is fixedly retained by the hook within the housing.

  • Publication number: 20180221643
Abstract: An infusion line clamp system includes a clamp configured to attach to an infusion line and reversibly occlude the infusion line. The clamp is biased to occlude the infusion line except when acted upon by an externally applied opening force. The system also includes an infusion pump having a control system, a clamp receptacle configured to releasably secure the clamp to the infusion pump, and a clamp actuation mechanism that is configured to selectively actuate the clamp under command of the control system, by selective application of opening force to the clamp when the clamp is secured to the pump.

  • Publication number: 20180193626
Abstract: An implantable portal includes a septum that has embedded therein an indicia adapted to identify at least one characteristic of the portal. The indicia may be formed as an impression at a base layer of the septum, and is filled with a radiopaque material. The septum base layer is covered by liquid silicone, which bonds with the septum base layer when solidified, so that an integral one-piece septum, with the identifier indicia embedded therein, is effected. The indicia embedded septum is fitted to the reservoir housing of the portal for providing identification information for that portal. The septum embedded indicia is viewable visually and also by x-ray or computer tomography imaging.

  • Patent number: 10016559
Abstract: Embodiments relate to systems, methods and devices for delivering a drug or other therapy to a patient with an ambulatory infusion pump configured to provide a series of tolerance-building steps leading up to a plateau delivery rate. The plateau delivery rate is maintained until the prescribed amount of drug or therapy fluid is delivered to the patient. Embodiments of the invention include providing the patient or other user with a mechanism to decrease, or step down, the therapy delivery rate if a tolerance was not achieved at a lower rate, and providing notifications prior to a step up in a dosage delivery rate.

  • Patent number: 10016556
Abstract: A rotatable electrical connector can include a base housing having a bottom surface, a top housing that is rotatably engaged with the base housing, and a plurality of contact pads that are arranged radially within the base housing. The contact pads each have a top surface and a bottom surface. A plurality of signal pins are individually associated with the plurality of contact pads; and each of the signal pins correspondingly project outwardly from the bottom surface of an associated contact pad and outwardly from the bottom surface of the base housing. A center ground pad, having a top surface and a bottom surface, is provided within the base housing. A ground pin projects outwardly from the bottom surface of the center ground pad and outwardly from the bottom surface of the base housing. A plurality of conductors is arranged radially within the top housing. The conductors individually correspond to the plurality of contact pads within the base housing.

  • Publication number: 20180177944
Abstract: A syringe pump configured to mechanically align a force sensor with an axis of a plunger of a syringe for a purpose of minimizing force measurement inaccuracies. The syringe pump includes a syringe pump housing that is configured to receive at least a portion of said syringe, wherein the syringe is selected from a plurality of syringes of different dimensions. A plunger retainer mechanism is pivotably coupled to the syringe pump housing and is configured to retain said plunger of said syringe. The plunger retainer mechanism pivots relative to the syringe pump housing based on a sensed dimension of the plunger to align a force sensor coupled to the plunger retainer mechanism with the axis of the plunger; and a syringe drive mechanism is operably coupled to the syringe pump housing and configured to shift the plunger relative to the portion of the syringe received by the syringe pump housing.

  • Patent number: 10004847
Abstract: A system for occlusion detection could include a syringe pump for a syringe containing a medication, wherein the syringe includes a plunger and the syringe pump includes a plunger driver. A bendable element could be integrally formed with the plunger driver, and a force sensor could also be integrally formed with the plunger driver. Upon occurrence of an occlusion, the plunger would exert a force backwardly against the bendable element, thereby deflecting the bendable element into contact with the force sensor to thereby generate a signal indicating the occurrence of the occlusion.
