  • Patent number: 7861566
Abstract: A bending press for making tubing from a substantially planar and longitudinally extending metal sheet has a support extending transversely generally parallel to the sheet vertically offset from the sheet, and a bender at one of the edges of the sheet and slidable transversely generally parallel to the sheet on the support. The bender has a pair of bending tools, a tie rod extending transversely in the direction adjacent the pair of tools, and an actuator braced transversely in the direction between the tie rod and the tools and extensible in the direction to tension the rod and press the tools against opposite faces of the sheets at the one edge to deform the one edge. A clamp is engageable between the bender and the support for releasably locking the bender to the support at any of a plurality of positions offset transversely therealong generally parallel to the sheet.

  • Patent number: 7854883
Abstract: A system for cooling a hot rail of rail steel to a fine perlitic or ferritic or perlitic/ferritic structure has a plurality of separate cooling modules with independently adjustable cooling parameters. The rail is guided downstream through the modules of the cooling stretch and through intermediate zones between the modules so as to cool the surface of the rail in each of the modules and to subject the rail to destressing or stress relief between the modules. Sensors in each of the intermediate zones detect the actual surface temperature of the rail in the respective zones, and a controller connected to the modules and to the sensors varies the cooling parameters of the cooling modules in dependence on the detected temperatures in the respective upstream zones to ensure a defined temperature in the rail that lies above a critical temperature at which bainitic structure components are formed.

  • Patent number: 7578155
Abstract: A rolling system has a rolling mill a rod workpiece, a wire block comprised of at least two roll stands downstream of the rolling mill, and a calibrating block comprised of three roll stands spaced apart in the direction downstream of the wire block. The workpiece is passed in the direction downstream in the direction from the rolling mill through the wire block and thereafter through the calibrating block with thickness reduction in each block. The gaps of the stands of the calibrating block are set at a fixed spacing and not varied during a rolling operation. A sensor measures the thickness of the workpiece upstream of the calibrating block, and gaps of the roll stands of the rolling mill or wire block are adjusted in accordance with the measured thickness such that the workpiece has a predetermined thickness on entering the calibrating block.

  • Patent number: 7469566
Abstract: One of a pair of rolls of a roll stand is formed with an axially throughgoing central hole through which passes a drive shaft having a pair of ends. A coupling at one end of the drive shaft rotates same and the one roll. This one roll can be shifted, normally vertically, between a use position closely juxtaposed with the other roll and a change position spaced away from the other roll and with the roll resting on supports. An entrainment fitting on the carriage can fit with and axially connect to an entrainment element of the drive shaft in the change position of the other roll. An actuator can shift the carriage from an inner position into an outer position and thereby pull the drive shaft out of the one roll and leave the one roll resting on the supports.

  • Patent number: 7188502
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for changing sets of top rolls, lateral rolls, and a bottom roll, and mounted in chocks of a welding stand of a continuously operating longitudinal tube welding machine. The inventive method enables the rolls to be changed faster, using less appliances. Said method comprises the following steps: the top rolls are lifted; a dismantling/transport means is placed beneath the top rolls; the top rolls are lowered onto the dismantling/transport means and deposited on the same; and, once the top rolls have been removed, the dismantling/transport means is laterally withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 7150851
Abstract: An apparatus for pressing a mass into a coherent workpiece has a mold body defining a chamber and a mold liner in the chamber having a generally cylindrical pressing surface centered on an axis, directed in one radial direction, and defining a mold cavity and an opposite surface directed in an opposite radial direction. A plunger is engageable axially in the cavity. The cavity holds the mass in engagement with the pressing surface and with the plunger. The plunger can be pressed axially against the mass and thereby compress the mass in the cavity. A force, typically effected hydraulically, is exerted against the liner in the one radial direction between the mold body and the opposite surface of the liner to thereby elastically deform the liner in the one radial direction toward the mass and radially compress the liner and mass in the cavity.

  • Patent number: 7116428
Abstract: A method and device for measuring the wall thickness of a pipe in a pipe-rolling mill wherein a Fabry-Pérot interfero-meter has its mirror spacing set by providing an input to a linear activity for one of the mirrors from a controller receiving an input from a photodiode at the output side of the interferometer. A second control circuit regulates the amplification of that photodiode with at least one parameter derived from the rolling system, for example, the input optical signal to the interferometer or a disturbance value representing for example the temperature of the rolled product and obtained through an optical pyrometer. The incoming optical signal may be tapped to another photodiode also with a variable amplification amplifier and both amplifiers may be controlled by a second controller.

  • Patent number: 7082799
Abstract: The invention concerns a drive system (1) for a rolling mill, especially for a cold pilger rolling mill with at least one roll frame (1) movable back and forth, at least one crank drive (3) which has a crank arm (4) with a counterweight (5) for at least partial compensation of the inertial forces produced by the mill frame (2), a drive (6) and a connecting rod (7) which articulates the mill frame (2) and the crank arm (4) with one another and at least one counterweight (8, 9) which is eccentrically rotatable and serves to compensate the inertial forces and/or the moments of inertia. To achieve an efficient balancing of the inertial forces with a simple construction of the drive system, the invention provides that at least one counterweight (8, 9) is rotatably driven by a separate rod (10, 11) independently from the drive (6) of the crank drive.

  • Patent number: 7073362
Abstract: A drive for reciprocating a roll stand of a pilger cold-rolling system has a crank rotatable about an axis transverse to a reciprocation direction of the stand and a tie rod having an outer end journaled on the stand and an inner end eccentrically journaled on the crank so that rotation of the crank reciprocates the stand in the direction. A compensating weight is fixed to the crank opposite the tie rod and orbits in a weight plane on rotation of the crank. A counterweight is offset along the weight plane from the crank. A drive connects the counterweight to the crank for orbiting the counterweight in the weight plane on rotation of the crank.
