  • Patent number: 5545260
Abstract: A method operating a pickling installation for pickling rolled strips comprises several consecutively disposed pickling basins filled with a pickling agent containing acid, through which the strip 4 is passed. A pickling agent containing acid is injected through injection nozzles disposed at least on the sides of the basin. A flexible adaptation to the respective pickling task with the aim of a reduced pickling time period is made possible if the nozzle injections on the sides are actuated variably. The pickling installation is provided for this purpose on both sides of the plurality of the basins, with injection nozzles above and below the strip traveling plane and upstream or downstream of base slide pads located in the basin.

  • Patent number: 5416410
Abstract: A sensor head for a magnetic flux transmitter is disclosed which permits the manufacture, in series, and a simple mutual alignment, of a sleeve-shaped permanent magnet and, of a Hall generator which is disposed within the permanent magnet. An embodiment is disclosed which provides the disposition of the Hall generator at the end of a finger-shaped extension of a printed circuit board and to allocate a clamping piece, which is pressable into the permanent magnet, to the carrier. The permanent magnet is displaceable, relative to the Hall generator, for the adjustment of an optimum working point of the magnetic flux transmitter. The permanent magnet, however, has a sufficiently tight seating upon the carrier up to the final attachment of the components of the sensor head by means of an adhesive compound.

  • Patent number: 4813257
Abstract: A star-shaped array of channeled rolls in a rolling mill for rolling bar stock has the rolls pressed together with a pressing force exceeding the rolling force by a prestressing force sufficient to cause frustoconical flanks of the rolls to forceably press against one another. This stabilizes the rolls and also permits a fine adjustment of the diameter of the passage defined between them.

  • Patent number: 4801863
Abstract: Apparatus for enabling continuous monitoring of a mixture ratio of two different liquids as well as to limit it to those mixture amounts which are drawn off at a particular time for the purpose of being used which includes a receptacle filled by a liquid or through which the liquid flows. The receptacle comprises two electrodes insulated from each other and located opposite each other at which a capacitance measuring device determining the respectively occurring capacitance is connected. The dielectric constants of the components of the mixture which differ in many mixtures, for instance, in an oil-water mixture, permit, because of the fixed dimension of the constituted condenser, the determination of the composition of the mixture by means of the respectively existing dielectric constant so that, for instance, harmful water penetrating into oil systems provided for lubrication can be determined in small amounts and can trigger appropriate warning signals.

  • Patent number: 4759485
Abstract: The drive apparatus is for rolling mills, especially for those which are subjecting the strip to a heat treating operation in wide-strip rolling-mill trains. The lower drive roll is mounted in the frame, and with reference to the upper drive roll which is connected to the swing arm, so as to be capable of performing adjusting and swinging movements. The respective housings of the lower drive roll are connected to hydraulically operated swing cylinders and position indicator devices. When the pressure control is operative the contact force at the rolls is a function of the prevailing hydraulic pressure. The apparatus also allows automatic zeroing of the drive roll gap.

  • Patent number: 4712416
Abstract: A six-high rolling stand has a pair of upper and lower working rolls defining a nip, a pair of upper and lower inner backup rolls vertically flanking and bearing on the working rolls, a pair of upper and lower outer backup rolls vertically flanking and bearing on the inner backup rolls, a frame, and respective journal blocks carrying the rolls in the frame and supporting the rolls therein for rotation about respective axes that are all substantially parallel with the outer roll axes at least defining a vertical plane. A drive is connected directly to the outer backup rolls for oppositely rotating same and the upper and lower rolls vertically engage one another so that the rotation of the outer backup rolls is transmitted through the inner backup rolls to the working rolls. Actuators braced between some of the journal blocks and the frame for vertically displacing at least some of the rolls horizontally perpendicular to the plane.

  • Patent number: 4711116
Abstract: A roll stand has a frame, a pair of small-diameter and substantially parallel working rolls defining a workpiece nip, and respective journal blocks supporting the working rolls in the frame for rotation about substantially parallel axes flanking the nip. These working-roll journal blocks and the respective working rolls can be axially shifted in the frame and the working rolls can be bent positively and negatively, that is respectively convex and concave toward the workpiece. A pair of large-diameter and substantially parallel backup rolls flank and bear toward the nip on the working rolls. Respective journal blocks support the backup rolls in the frame for rotation about substantially parallel axes flanking and generally coplanar with the working-roll axes. A strip is passed repeatedly in a multipass run through the nip generally perpendicular to the plane while the working rolls are pressed against the workpiece to reduce its thickness.

  • Patent number: 4674313
Abstract: A roll stand has a frame, an upper backup roll and a lower backup roll rotatable in the frame about respective vertically spaced axes, and an upper working roll and a lower working roll flanked by and operatively engaging the respective backup rolls. A workpiece normally passes horizontally through the nip formed by the working rolls. Actuators can urge the backup rolls toward each other with a high force and with a low force. Respective upper and lower drives are connected to the respective backup rolls and energizable for rotating same and thereby pulling the workpiece engaged between the working rolls through the roll stand. A clutch is connected between one of the drives and the respective backup roll and is openable to rotationally disconnect the one drive from its backup roll. A controller is connected to the one drive and the clutch for deenergizing the one drive and opening the clutch for low-force rolling. For high-force rolling the clutch is closed and both drives are energized.
