  • Patent number: 6328093
Abstract: A strand guiding segment for slab casting plants with a guiding width for the cast strand is adjustable between guide rollers of a frame on a fixed side and a frame on a detachable side, wherein the frames interact with adjusting units for overcoming the ferrostatic pressure and for adjusting the desired sectional width of the strand. The adjusting units are four independently adjustable pressure cylinders arranged outside of the radiation range at the upper side of the segment, wherein the distance between the segment middle and cylinder which determines the segment width is reduced on both sides by the dimension of the cylinder which has been moved to the upper side of the segment. The segment crossbeams are provided with radiation protection plates instead of water cooling means and cooled side frames are laterally flanged to the bottom frames.

  • Patent number: 6311536
Abstract: In a method for manufacturing a sidewall member of a continuous casting mold from a copper blank, wherein the sidewall member has an upper and a lower edge and a curved widened area beginning at the upper edge and tapering in a direction to the lower edge and to the sides of the sidewall member, the copper blank is hot-forged via several intermediate shapes to a rectangular plate with an initial wedge shape. The rectangular plate is then further formed by final hot-forging in a longitudinal direction of the rectangular plate with a straight saddle, having a width that is only a portion of a width of the rectangular plate measured relative to the longitudinal direction of the rectangular plate, and the curved widened area is pre-forged. Subsequently, the rectangular plate is quenched and work-hardened. The rectangular plate is then cold-hammered via a wedge-shaped bottom saddle for work-hardening a middle portion of the rectangular plate and for producing a final wedge shape of the rectangular plate.

  • Patent number: 6308769
Abstract: A continuous casting plant suitable for casting steel slabs, wherein the partially solidified strand composed of a strand shell and a partially liquid core is guided after emerging from the mold during the further solidification between the rollers of a strand guiding unit which has a loose or movable side and a fixed side, and wherein the strand shell forms in the areas between always two rollers spaced apart from each other in the casting direction a deformation in the form of a bulge with an increase of the cross-section. For compensating for an increase of the cross-section of a respective strand portion, a counter-pressure is applied from the outside against the strand area located opposite the strand portion with the increased cross-section in order to reduce the cross-section.

  • Patent number: 6295852
Abstract: In a method and a device for descaling a metal strip, the metal strip is guided in a transport direction from a first roll stand to a second roll stand. A descaling device is positioned between the first and second roll stands. A descaling liquid is sprayed onto the metal strip from a working distance relative to the metal strip via the descaling device. The metal strip is moved at the location of the descaling device by a forced deflection amount in a direction transverse to the transport direction via an advancing element. A position of the descaling device is adjusted based on the forced deflection amount such that the working distance stays the same.
