  • Patent number: 5174589
Abstract: A chuck with radially adjustable base jaws and exchangeable clamping jaws is provided. The toothings of the base jaws intermesh with respective toothings of the clamping jaws. The base jaws and the clamping jaws are coupled by respective keys which are adjustable relative to one another by an amount corresponding at least to the height of the intermeshing toothings. The adjustment is carried out by a clamp bolt which extends through the shaft of the key and which is provided with a conical clamping surface. The clamp bolt is supported at a rotatably mounted threaded elements or spindle such that the key may be adjusted in the axial direction of the key shaft by the rotation of the threaded element or spindle due to the cooperation of respective counter surfaces provided at the threaded element or spindle with the clamping surfaces of the clamp bolt. Due to this arrangement it is possible to connect and release respective clamping jaws from the base jaws in a very short period of time.

  • Patent number: 4754673
Abstract: In a self-centering steady rest (1) with three holding members (12,13,14) acting upon a workpiece (2) to be chucked, an adjusting member (15) interacting with the two outer holding members (13,14) is adjustable in the longitudinal direction (A) of the central holding member (12) by an adjustable distance corresponding to the sum of respective deformations of the outer holding members. This makes it possible to compensate not only the elastic deformations of the two outer holding members (13,14), but all back rest components involved in the transmission of forces. Consequently, reproducible centered chucking of the workpiece (2) can be accomplished at all times with great chucking accuracy.

  • Patent number: 4591172
Abstract: In a power chuck including jaws moved by drivers which are displaceable in the axial direction of the chuck body by means of an axially displaceable actuating member mounted in the chuck body, the actuating member is coupled to the individual drivers through two gimbal rings which compensate for unequal displacement of the jaws. The gimbal suspension can be bridged by connecting the rings rigidly to each other. A balanced as well as centric clamping of a workpiece may thus be effected. The manufacturing costs are low so that both economy and high reliability in operation are obtained.

  • Patent number: 4537410
Abstract: In a power operated chuck, a radially elastically deformable seal ring is inserted in a recess of a pressure fluid supply ring embracing the chuck body. The seal ring comprises a stiff body portion in which passages are provided for the pressure fluid, and laterally projecting fins which are elastically deformable in the radial direction of the chuck and apply against the supply ring. In an unloaded state, the seal ring is under slight bias applied against the supply ring and spaced from the circumferential surface of the chuck body. The area of the outer circumferential surface of the seal ring, exposed to the inflowing pressure fluid, is larger than the ring area on the inside circumference which is exposed to fluid pressure from the inside. The design makes it possible to transfer, in a short period of time, a large amount of pressure fluid into the chuck. Also, the seal ring disengages from the chuck body abruptly.
