  • Patent number: 5653073
Abstract: There is provided by this invention an improved fenestration construction with an insulated glass pane construction. The fenestration can have a sash that includes an peripheral frame-like member which defines a central opening, an outer face and glazing engaging surfaces. A glazing engaging stop member constructed to cooperate with the peripheral frame-like member in forming the sash. A membrane which is gas and a moisture vapor flow resistant is applied to the glazing engaging surfaces. A primary and a secondary sealant is also applied to the membrane at the glazing engaging surfaces. The primary sealant is adjacent yet to-be-formed insulated space between the panes. The secondary seal is positioned outwardly thereof. An external pane is positioned in the sash and engages primary sealant and secondary sealant. A second pane is positioned in the sash space but generally parallel to the exterior pane and also engages sealant. The stop is then secured to the frame.

  • Patent number: 5553420
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a casement-style window assembly having a support frame which carries a pivotable sash assembly. The sash assembly has its own frame and carries a pane, usually transparent, therein. Both the frame and sash are constructed of multi-chambered extruded structural plastic members and interior decorative wood members that are arranged to conceal the plastic members from interior view. Weather stripping or insulation is fitted within various chambers. Operator and multi-point lock hardware are mounted to the structural plastic frame. Wooden stops associated with the sash frame cooperate to trap the pane in position and to engage the support frame when the window is closed. The sash frame structural member forms an L-shape which includes an affect member directed to the interior for engaging the support frame. In this construction the window assembly forms a functional unit even with the various wood members removed.

  • Patent number: 5515652
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a double hung window assembly which includes a frame and a pair of vertically moveable pane carrying sash members. The frame is a multi-chambered structural plastic extrusion with provision for carrying interior decorative members. The frame includes elongated jamb liners of different colors. The sash includes wooden members carried by the plastic extrusion and constructed to define a stop whereby a pane is secured along its edges to the frame and between the stop and the plastic extrusion. The sash plastic members are essentially identical and the wooden stop members are identical for both sashes. The sash includes grooves to engage the jamb liners. Both the frame and sash carry interior wooden members constructed to be received and held in position relative to the plastic members and conceal the plastic members from interior view.

  • Patent number: 5509234
Abstract: An operator assembly for a casement window that includes a frame and a pane carrying sash. The operator assembly is mounted to the frame and an elongated arm connects the operator assembly and the sash. Movement of the arm moves the sash relative to the frame for opening and closing the window. The operator arm includes a pivotally mounted and linerally moveable handle which is moveable between a first and second position. A ratchet-type gearing system is provided to connect the handle and operator arm and to effect movement of the operator arm in response to movement of the handle. A selector associated with the handle and gearing system is provided to effect and control the direction of sash movement in response to the movements by the handle. A locking system is provided to engage the gearing system to prevent movement of the gearing system due to loads on the sash that are transmitted to the gearing system through the sash and operator arm.

  • Patent number: 4986039
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a skylight installation for a pitched roof having a planar section and for passing visible light from the ambient to the building interior while minimizing the ambient elements from entering the building through the skylight installation. The skylight unit includes a roof engaging mounting frame constructed to engage the planar roof section in a substantially coplanar manner and which defines a head end, a sill end and a pair of side edges. The side edges also include a pair of upstanding seam members for sealing to the roof. A sash is removably and hingedly connected to the mounting frame and carries a planar glass pane. Primary sealing means are associated with the frame for sealingly engaging the sash and secondary sealing means are provided in association with the frame for sealingly engaging the pane. The hinge includes one hinge element associated with the frame head member and a second hinge element associated with the sash head member.

  • Patent number: 4982530
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a fenestration for a building having a fenestration-securing opening cut therein. The fenestration includes a mounting frame assembly for fitting within the opening and a glazed sash carried in the mounting frame. The mounting frame and the sash each includes an extruded I-beam-like shaped core portion. The mounting frame core is constructed for securement to (a) an interior frame part, (b) exterior brick moulding or extrustion, (c) a sash weatherstripping and (d) a building flashing or seal. The sash core is an I-beam-like shaped extruded core having an interior member, exterior member, and glazing grasping portions. This construction permits the selective and flexible use of clear, finished, primed, unprimed, painted, stained, clad, etc., interior or exterior members and minimizes storage and inventory problems.
