Abstract: The invention relates to device for soothing and calming an animal. In one embodiment, the device comprises a toy-shaped structure filled with soft stuffing material for an animal to lie against, the filler stuffing material at least partially defining a pouch within a central opening in the toy adapted to removably receive a modular simulator. The modular simulator generating rhythmic soothing acoustic sounds that simulate the actual breathing of the animal's mother and to communicate said breathing sound to the animal when lying against the toy structure. In another embodiment, the sound simulator is disposed in a pouch provided on a harness, the pouch being in proximity to the heart of the animal.
