Patent number: 5024595Abstract: A burner control for a condensing furnace having a flame proving circuit that incorporates the flame at the burner to be closed and that opens upon absence of a flame to cause a gas valve to close and block the flow of gas to the burner. A short circuit shunting the flame proving circuit includes a probe that projects into the outlet manifold of the condensing furnace. If liquid level in the outlet manifold reaches the probe, a short circuit is closed between the probe and a ground on the manifold. The control to the valve is energized to close the valve in the same manner as if the flame had extinguished at the burner. Upon closing the gas valve, the burner is extinguished.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1989Date of Patent: June 18, 1991Assignee: Snyder General CorporationInventors: David B. Schumacher, Steven J. Patent number: 4893390Abstract: A furnace heat exchanger and support plate assembly are joined together by a cooperating substantially elliptical rim defining an opening in the heat exchanger and an opening formed by a mating flange on a partition plate and extending perpendicular to the plane of the plate. The flange and the partition plate is inserted in the opening in the heat exchanger unit and expanded radially outward with respect to the central longitudinal axis of the openings by a multiple jaw expander mechanism which is inserted through the opening in the plate into the interior of the heat exchanger. The expander includes radially and axially moveable jaws comprising plural jaw segments which are engaged by an axially moveable mandrel. The number of jaws in the expander is sufficient to form a substantially leakproof seal between the exchanger unit and the support plate assembly in a single expander operation through a single bending sequence.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1988Date of Patent: January 16, 1990Assignee: Snyder General CorporationInventor: Russell W. Hoeffken

Patent number: 4892045Abstract: A condensate drain system for a furnace incorporates a collector and blower housing assembly mounted above a secondary condensing heat exchanger with condensate ports between the blower housing and the collector housing positioned to assure flow of all condensate from the exhaust flue and the blower housing to the collector housing. A pipe extends downwardly from the collector housing to the condenser outlet manifold so that all condensate ultimately flows to the condenser outlet manifold and can be discharged to a drain by a single tube.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1988Date of Patent: January 9, 1990Assignee: Snyder General CorporationInventor: David B. Schumacher

Patent number: 4587403Abstract: A sub-base for use in conjunction with thermostats for controlling air conditioned spaces includes a false heat device and a radio frequency receiver and control circuit for turning on and off the false heat device to provide temperature setback control for the thermostat. The sub-base may be mounted between the thermostat and the existing wall mounting structure and is adapted to be connected to the thermostat control conductors for a source of power for the sub-base and to receive radio frequency signals transmitted over the thermostat conductors.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1983Date of Patent: May 6, 1986Assignee: Snyder General CorporationInventor: Robert P. Shapess

Patent number: 4547943Abstract: A plate assembly is secured to a heat exchanger unit for a hot air furnace at each of one or more apertures in the unit by expanding a flange extending around an aperture on the plate within the aperture in the unit to cause such flange to conform to the exact shape of the aperture in the unit and form a leak-proof joint between the heat exchanger unit and plate assembly.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1981Date of Patent: October 22, 1985Assignee: Snyder General CorporationInventor: Russell W. Hoeffken

Patent number: 4538338Abstract: A furnace heat exchanger and support plate assembly are joined together by a cooperating oval rim defining an opening in the heat exchanger and an opening formed by a mating flange on a partition plate and extending perpendicular to the plane of the plate. The flange on the partition plate is inserted in the opening in the heat exchanger unit and expanded radially outward with respect to the central longitudinal axis of the openings by a multiple jaw expander mechanism which is inserted through the opening in the plate into the interior of the heat exchanger. A second expander apparatus is inserted in the opening after withdrawal of the first expander to engage and expand portions of the flanges which were not fully displaced by the first expander. The expander mechanisms include radially and axially movable jaws comprising plural oval shaped jaw segments which are engaged by an axially movable mandrel.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1983Date of Patent: September 3, 1985Assignee: Snyder General CorporationInventors: Russell W. Hoeffken, John M. Wiese

Patent number: 4510660Abstract: A heat exchanger unit having opposed pan shaped sections with perimeter flanges which are folded one over the other to secure the sections together. The section having the inner flange is formed with a displaced flange portion or bead all along the perimeter flange portions, which bead is elastically displaced by the folded over flange to form a substantially leakproof joint.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1982Date of Patent: April 16, 1985Assignee: Snyder General CorporationInventor: Russell W. Patent number: 4501193Abstract: A mounting curb for rooftop packaged air conditioning units comprising a generally rectangular frame having a bottom wall with adjacent return and supply air duct openings formed therein and in communication with respective common supply and return air ducts formed in the curb. The return air duct includes opposed branch portions leading to openings in the top wall of the curb in communication with the return air openings in the air conditioning units. The supply air duct includes opposed branch portions also in communication with respective supply air openings in the bottom wall of the air conditioning unit enclosures. The supply air duct is disposed generally over the return air duct and inward therefrom with respect to the opposite end walls of the curb.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1982Date of Patent: February 26, 1985Assignee: Snyder General CorporationInventor: Spiridon Trigourea
