Abstract: A process for the production of esters of the general formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 signifies methyl or ethyl and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, independently from one another, signify C.sub.1-4 -alkyl, is described.The process is characterized in subjecting a diketo ester of the formula ##STR2## in which R.sup.1 to R.sup.3 have the above significances; and X is chlorine or bromine, preferably chlorine, and to a dehydrohalogenation process.The compounds I are known odorants.

Abstract: The invention relates to novel odorant substances. These are compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R.sup.1 are H, CH.sub.3, C.sub.2 H.sub.5, C.sub.3 H.sub.7 or CH(CH.sub.3).sub.2 and the sum of the carbon atoms in R and R.sup.1 does not exceed 6, and X is caran-yliden (2,2) or caran-yliden (4,4).The invention relates also to the preparation of these novel substances and to odorant compositions containing these substances.

Abstract: A process for the manufacture of esters of formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 signifies methyl or ethyl and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, independently from one another, signify hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 -alkyl,is described. The process comprises treating a diketo ester of the formula ##STR2## in which R.sup.1 to R.sup.3 have the above significances, with the combination ofCuX.sub.2 and MeX.sub.n IIIin which Me signifies an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal ion, X signifies halogen and n corresponds to the valency of the metal ion.Compounds I are known odorants.The reaction involved is thus an aromatization of the starting material.

Abstract: Perfumed compositions which may, and in most cases especially do, contain one or more odorant perfume ingredients in conjunction with up to 20%, by weight of said perfumed compositions, of the compound 2-n-pentyl-3-(2-oxopropyl)-1-cyclopentanone which is free from garlicky odors and which has a magnolia or magnolia-like odor, and which possesses the property of imparting a magnolia odor to such perfumed and odorant compositions.

Abstract: Nor-dehydropatchoulol having the formula I is disclosed. ##STR1## This previously unknown compound has been extracted from natural Patchouli Oil. It can be used in odorant compositions such as perfumes, detergents, aerosols, cosmetic products, etc.

Abstract: Novel esters of cyclohexene are disclosed having the formula ##STR1## in which R represents hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms.These novel esters display a wide range of interesting odoriferous properties. A process for the preparation of said esters is also disclosed.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of compounds of the formula I ##STR1## by reacting of a compound of the formula II ##STR2## with up to 1.5 molar equivalent of water at elevated temperature. R represents an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms, R.sup.1 represents an alkyl or alkenyl group containing 3 to 6 carbon atoms and n represents 1 or 2.

Abstract: Intermediates useful for the synthesis of the valuable perfume material norpatchoulenol, said intermediates having the formula, for instance ##STR1## This intermediate, which is a novel compound, is useful as an intermediate for the production of ethers, esters and other intermediates, which are also novel compounds, such as, for instance, methyl, ethyl, isopropyl and benzyl ethers which can be represented by the formulae ##STR2## wherein R is hydrogen or lower carboxylic acyl. ##STR3## WHERE R is lower alkyl, such as methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, benzyl, etc., and ##STR4## where ##STR5## is a lower acyl radical such as acetyl, propionyl, butyryl, benzoyl, etc. Such intermediates are readily prepared by etherification and esterification reaction procedures and said intermediates are useful as intermediates for the preparation of other odorants.

Abstract: A novel nitrile 3-(10-undecenyloxy)propionitrile is disclosed having remarkable odoriferous properties and being useful in a variety of compositions and formulations. A process for the preparation of said nitrile is also disclosed.

Abstract: A novel process for the production of the valuable perfume material norpatchoulenol is disclosed which involves oxidatively decarboxylating an acid precursor according to the following reaction scheme: ##STR1## Intermediates for the synthesis, having the formula ##STR2## wherein R represents -COOH, CH.sub.2 OH or --CHO are also disclosed.

Abstract: Odoriferous agents in the form of certain novel tricyclic norsesquiterpene derivatives are disclosed. These norsesquiterpenes have the formula ##STR1## wherein either (a) R.sup.1 -R.sup.4 represent hydrogen or two of the symbols R.sup.1 to R.sup.4 represent hydrogen and the other two taken together represent oxygen or (b) three of the symbols R.sup.1 to R.sup.4 represent hydrogen and the fourth represents hydroxy.Processes for the production of said norsesquiterpene derivatives are also disclosed.

Abstract: Novel cyclopentanone derivatives are disclosed having the formula ##SPC1##In which R represents a hydrocarbon group of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, X represents a cyano, formyl, hydroxymethyl, lower alkoxymethyl, lower alkanoyloxymethyl or lower alkylcarbonyl group and Y represents an oxo or ketal group,With the proviso that R does not represent an n-pentyl group when, simultaneously, X represents a methylcarbonyl group and Y represents an oxo group.Processes for the preparation of the said cyclopentanone derivatives and also the use thereof in perfumes, cosmetic and other products are disclosed.

Abstract: The novel compound methyl [2-n-propyl-3-keto-cyclo-pent-l-yl]-acetate which is a valuable odoriferous agent is disclosed together with process for its preparation and methods of using it in perfumes, cosmetics and other products. It is noteworthy that the cis isomer possesses olfactory advantages over the trans isomer.

Abstract: Processes for the preparation of 8,14-cedranoxide are disclosed, according to which 8,14-cedrane diol is prepared by reducing 8,14-cedranolide by treatment with the aid of diisobutyl-aluminum hydride followed by acid hydrolysis, or 8,14-cedrane diol is cyclized with dimethyl sulfoxide.
