Abstract: The stiffness of a flexible, substantially parallelepipedal container formed by shaping and welding a film which is made of a synthetic material and which is to enclose a liquid to be packaged, is improved by applying, before shaping, a second layer of a film formed of an identical or a different material, as a top film, to the surface of the film forming the container which does not subsequently come into contact with the liquid to be packaged. The top film includes a plurality of strips corresponding to the vertical surfaces of the final container which are welded to the film forming the container before shaping, along lines corresponding to the edges of the final parallelepipedal container.

Abstract: A device for perforating a pack made of flexible synthetic material and having a closing-off and pouring assembly including a cylindrical shank and a plug for interacting with the shank and for cutting and perforating the pack in order to access a liquid contained in the pack, is improved by providing the shank with a reinforcement attached to and extending from the base of the shank, partially inwardly toward the center of the shank. Abstract: An apparatus for welding and cutting a film of single-layer or multi-layer synthetic material includes two jaws which are movable relative to one another. One of the jaws has a welding contact zone which includes a strip which has a groove of substantially v-shaped cross-section separating a pair of wings parallel to the edge of the corresponding jaw. The other of the jaws is equipped with a means for cutting the film which includes a wire of circular cross-section projecting relative to the edge of the jaw which supports it, so that the wire and the groove can interact with one another to make the cut as the weld is performed by the wings of welding strip.

Abstract: Packaging apparatus is described for forming a series of containers from an elongated strip of film and for disposing materials, illustratively a liquid, into each of the containers. The packaging apparatus comprises a supply of the film, a mechanism for withdrawing the film from the supply and for advancing the film along a path, and a mechanism disposed at a first station adjacent the path for shaping the film into the series of containers. A material injection mechanism is disposed at a second station along said path downstream of the first station for injecting a measured quantity of liquid at periodic intervals into a single one of the series of containers as it is brought one at a time to the second station. A mechanism is provided for imparting a relatively stationary relationship between each container of the series and the material injecting mechanism, thereby permitting the injection of materials into each of the containers before they are severed from each other.
