    Abstract: There is described a method for preparing a cation exchanger to remove metals from liquids they are contained in, which comprises adding to a silicic acid medium with a molecular weight which is preferably lower than 50,000, such a base which brings said medium at least to pH 8, preferably about pH 10, and forming a precipitate that comprises said cation exchanger.
