Abstract: Method of instantaneous acoustic logging within a wellbore.The method is characterized in that it consists of locating on drill-pipe and ground recordings elementary recordings corresponding to one and the same depth level of the drilling tool, in grouping these elementary recordings in pairs, then in intercorrelating said recordings of the pairs so as to produce in respect of each pair a correlated signal which is representative of the acoustic energy produced and of the difference in travel times of the waves received on sensors from which the pair of recordings has been obtained.A particular application is for the determination of a seismic wellbore profile.

Abstract: A method is provided for continuous quantitative analysis of H.sub.2 S dissolved in crude oil. The liquid is injected into a mixing chamber 14 in the form of a microsprayed mist meeting a nitrogen stream. The mist conveyed by the nitrogen is injected in the lower unfilled part 16a of a mist separation chamber 16 filled with solid mist separation material and passes from bottom to top through said filling while giving up liquid in the form of coalesced droplets. The gas and nitrogen mixture emerging at the top 16b of chamber 16 is free of at least a large part of the least volatile constituents.

Abstract: Continuous manufacture of an alkane sulphonyl chloride by the action of chlorine on the dialkyl disulphide corresponding to the alkane, in the presence of water or an aqueous hydrochloric acid solution.Firstly, a fine emulsion of the dialkyl disulphide is prepared with water or with an aqueous hydrochloric acid solution, after which the emulsion is treated with chlorine under constant agitation.Preferably, separation of the alkane sulphonyl chloride formed is effected in two different zones, the second of which operates under reduced pressure.

Abstract: Method for the processing of recordings of signals resulting from a seismic exploration of a medium.It consists, after grouping recordings in pairs and crosscorrelation of the recordings of each pair, in grouping the elementary crosscorrelation functions thus obtained in at least one family in which the measuring spaces are included in a same predetermined reference space, in transforming the time variables of the said functions in order to bring the measuring space dimension to that of the reference, then in adding the transformed functions.Application in particular to acoustic logging seismic reflection or refraction.

Abstract: A method and device for making geophysical measurements in a wellbore comprising a measuring string of a plurality of measuring tools displaced along a borehole wall connected to a surface control unit by a traction system including a cable, guide pulley, connection head and junction box. The measuring tools are displaced at a relative velocity which is equal and opposite to the absolute velocity of the traction system in order to reduce the absolute velocity of the measuring tools to zero during measurement periods. The relative velocity of the tools is in the same direction as the absolute velocity of the traction system between measurement periods, with the result that the absolute velocity of the measuring tools during these periods is higher than the absolute velocity of the traction system.

Abstract: A process and apparatus for measuring the permeability of solid samples involves applying a constant differential pressure between the end faces of a sample disposed in a measuring cell, introducing a pressurized gas into the sample for a specified time, measuring the fluid flow rate, and then calculating the permeability of the sample by applying Darcy's law.

Abstract: A measuring tool for producing geophysical measurements within a borehole comprises a crawler belt, at least a portion of which constitutes a support for a transducer. The crawler belt is continuously displaced within the bore hole by means of a suspension cable and guide pulley in cooperating relation with spiked shoes and retaining plates for maintaining at least the transducer-supporting portion of the crawler belt in a stationary position with respect to the borehole wall during each measurement stage.

Abstract: In a process for the production of methyl mercaptan by heating a gas comprising carbon monoxide and/or carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulphide and hydrogen in contact with a catalyst based upon a heavy metal sulphide, with recycling of the gas fraction which has not reacted, the gas to be recycled has removed from it water which it contains following the reaction in contact with the catalyst.

Abstract: A circular guide table is provided for a marine production riser comprising an opening for the central tube having a ball joint allowing angular movement of the tube in any direction with respect to the table and two radial arms offset from each other by an angle close to 90.degree. fixed to the table and whose ends each support a sliding device, such as a roller carriage capable of sliding along vertical rails fixed to the platform. The table is formed from an inner collar in the form of a hub to which are fixed spokes between which the peripheral production stringers pass, the opposite ends of the spokes being joined together by an external collar provided with radial arms.

Abstract: A device is provided for positioning, activating and connecting the modules of a sub-sea oil production station. It comprises a frame 1 on which is mounted a central orientatable mast 20 having at its end a means 26 for connecting with a stringer train 28 and comprising a telescopic articulated gib 30 having a connector 32 at its end, said frame comprising underneath a connector 5 capable of locking a fixed mandrel 54 or that of a module to be positioned and comprising guide means 2 for lowering the device and means 3 for positioning it with respect to the module to be positioned, a multiconnector 6 for the electro-hydraulic connection with a multiconnector receptacle 54 carried by the module 70, electric and hydraulic umbilical ducts and cables 40 for the control and energy transmission to the multiconnector 6 and to the connector 32 and display means 33, 36.

Abstract: The device comprises a head 1 containing a cavity 2 and a sleeve 4, and a hollow body 3, inside which is lockingly housed a hollow mandril 6 fixed to a load to be carried and comprising a valving piston 17. Inside sleeve 4 is housed a mobile piston 31 whose head 32 slides in cavity 2. Pipes 27, 28, 29 pass through the cavity 2, whereas, opposite these pipes, housings 320 are formed in the piston 31 for allowing the piston to slide along the pipes. These housings are extended by ducts 33, 34, 35 opening laterally into the face of the piston 31 through orifices 36, 37. Inside mandril 6 are provided longitudinal high pressure fluid ducts 39, 40 for connection to the user circuits. The lateral face of the valving piston 17 comprises annular seals 44, 45, 46 intended to close off, in the raised position of piston 31, the annular zones corresponding to the orifices through which ducts 39, 40 open out and which communicate in the low position of 31 with the orifices 36, 37.

Abstract: In a method and device for the study of surface layers and subjacent layers of interest, the device comprises receivers and at least two transmission sources spaced at a distance such that a set of traces produced by one of the transmission sources does not interfere with a set of traces produced by the other transmission source when the two sets of traces are on the same time-section.

Abstract: New diphosphonic acid diesters in which the two phosphorus atoms are bound by a hydrocarbon group while each of the two acid functions of the diphosphonate is esterified by a radical having at least three carbon atoms are prepared by the treatment with a weak base of a corresponding tetramethyl diphosphonate, thereupon replacement of the cations of the base in the resultant disalt, by a radical R by means of a halide of said radical, and finally hydrolysis of the mixed diphosphonate thus obtained. The new compounds are suitable for various known uses of the different diphosphonates and in particular for the complexing of heavy metals; they are used in particular for the extraction of uranium and metals associated with it.

Abstract: An installation comprising a base frame 1 having four locations 2 for well heads 20 and a manifold frame 10 disposed in overhanging fashion inside the zone defined by frame 1. Frame 10 has four locations 17 for a stacked pair of connecting 30 and monitoring 40 modules, as well as a central location 17' for a central control module 50. Each module is provided with guide members 26, 32, 41, 52, for example sleeves, whose geometry corresponds to that of guide devices 3, 18 placed either on guide bases 2 of the frames 1, 10 or on the underlying module, such as guide columns 18. Each module comprises on its lower face a mechanical connector 16 cooperating with a mandril 12 carried on the upper face of the underlying module. The control of locking of the connector is provided by an internal multiconnector receptacle 24, 34, 43, 57 which each module comprises.

Abstract: A system for photographing circumferential surfaces of revolution of solid objects such as core samples is of a type in which an object is rotated so as to progressively present the surface to a fixed photographic device in which a film is moved at a linear velocity synchronously with the speed of rotation of the object. The apparatus is characterized in that it includes a spray conduit for the humidification of the object during photography and a liquid tank and roller assembly for forming a thin film of fluid over the entire circumferential surface of the object during the photography thereof.

Abstract: The froth flotation of a metal sulfide mineral is carried out using a thioamide as the collector in which the thioamide is of the formula ##STR1## R designating C.sub.5 to C.sub.17 alkyls, R' being H or (CH.sub.2).sub.n OR" and n an integer of 1 to 6, while Z is --OR" or ##STR2## where R" means H, CH.sub.3 or C.sub.2 H.sub.5.

Abstract: A device for connecting a collecting head input with the well head output by means of a movable connector connected to a looped duct, comprising a flexible connecting coupling formed by two horizontal loops surrounding the distribution block of the collecting head at different levels and connected by a vertical duct portion. The movable connector, for guiding same towards a receptacle-connector, rests on a fork integral with a lever hinged by means of a swivel joint, an intermediate point of the lever resting on one end of a hydraulic cylinder provided with a swivel joint, the other end of the hydraulic cylinder resting on the connection module being hinged by means of a swivel joint, the connector comprises at its periphery radical guide rollers co-operating with inclined ramps of the receptacle and grouped in pairs of superimposed rollers, of which the lower roller has a diameter less than that of the upper roller.

Abstract: A system is provided for guiding the central tube connector of a production riser for positioning same on an underwater well head installation. The central tube carries, during lowering, a support integral with the tube and formed by a horizontal plate having on its periphery a truncated cone shaped collar widening out towards the bottom, a guide funnel which freely rests on said support having a shoulder also widening out towards the bottom. The tube is lowered until said funnel is engaged on the installation head then, continuing the descent, the tube no longer supports the weight of the funnel and the connection may take place in a conventional way.

Abstract: A catalytic process for the production of sulphur from an acid gas containing H.sub.2 S, in which a part of H.sub.2 S is catalytically oxidized in order to form an effluent containing H.sub.2 S and SO.sub.2 in a molar ratio of 2:1 and a given quantity of sulphur, then said effluent is contacted with a CLAUS catalyst to form a further quantity of sulphur.The catalytic oxidation of H.sub.2 S is carried out in the presence of an oxidation catalyst consisting of agglomerates comprising an active alumina thermally stabilized by at least one oxide from the group consisting of SiO.sub.2, ZrO.sub.2, the rare-earth metal oxides and the alkaline-earth metal oxides to which are associated one or more compounds of metals such as iron that promote the oxidation of H.sub.2 S.

Abstract: A shield for protecting a well head and functional modules in an under sea station comprising a composite cushion formed from a floor 6 made from a material less dense than water, such as a plastic material or treated wood, and resting on a perforated metal sheet or grid 7, removably fixed by means of deformable feet 4 to a horizontal plate 1 mounted at the top of the module to be protected and having at the position where the guide column 2 passes an opening in which is welded a sleeve 14 capable of sliding along said guide columns 2.In a shield for protecting a module provided with a central connector, said plate has a central cage with vertical lateral wall for housing said connector, radial arms being fixed to the bodies of several shock absorbers spaced apart on said plate and to said wall of the cage for transmitting shock absorbing forces.
