Patent number: 4610282Abstract: A portable machine for carbonating liquid contained in a bottle is adapted to support the bottle (5) by the neck (81) through a bayonet connection and for a seal (64) which closes the bottle neck to be driven into engagement with the bottle neck by a piston (60) actuated by the first burst of gas supplied to the injection nozzle (66). The bottle is loaded into the machine through a front opening (6) and a cover (7) for closing the opening is interlocked with a gas supply valve (12) so that gas can only be delivered to the nozzle (66) when the cover is closed. The cover is opened and closed by rotating a knob (23) which is depressed to open the gas valve. The knob (23) is coupled to the gas valve (12) through a device (27) which prevents the valve being opened if the machine is tilted at more than a given angle to the upright position.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1984Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Assignee: Sodastream LimitedInventors: Graham L. Brooks, Antony F. Pateman, Michael A. Thomson, John Scott

Patent number: 4518541Abstract: An apparatus for aerating liquids, particularly for the preparation of carbonated beverages, has a carbonating chamber with electrically actuated valves controlling the flow of liquid and gas to and from the chamber, and a programmed electronic timer control device controls said valves enabling liquid to be carbonated and dispensed at the touch of a button.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1984Date of Patent: May 21, 1985Assignee: Sodastream LimitedInventor: Derek W. Harris

Patent number: 4514994Abstract: An apparatus for carbonating liquids is mounted on the inside of the door (1) of a domestic refrigerator, and a control lever (76) on the outside of the door is operable to control (i) the supply of water from a reservoir tank (7) to the carbonating chamber (8), (ii) the supply of gas from a cylinder (37) to the carbonating chamber for injection into the water, (iii) the operation of an exhaust valve (41) to release the gas pressure in the carbonating chamber (8), and the discharge of carbonated water from the chamber (8) to a nozzle (21) on the outside of the refrigerator door. Water flows into and out of the chamber through a single port (11) in the base of the chamber which houses a spool valve (16) reciprocable in opposite directions to connect the port (11) to the reservoir tank (7) and to the discharge nozzle (21).Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1982Date of Patent: May 7, 1985Assignee: Sodastream LimitedInventor: Kenneth G. Mabb

Patent number: 4399081Abstract: A portable apparatus for aerating liquids includes an aerating head, a mechanism for supplying gas to the aerating head from a cylinder when a control button is depressed, a platform for lifting a bottle containing liquid to be aerated into sealing engagement with the aerating head, and a rotary cam operable by a handle to raise and lower the platform. A pre-compressed coil compression spring is interposed between the platform and a button engaged with the cam to ensure adequate sealing pressure between the bottle and aerating head.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1981Date of Patent: August 16, 1983Assignee: Sodastream LimitedInventor: Kenneth G. Mabb

Patent number: 4251473Abstract: A portable carbonating apparatus of the type comprising a pressure vessel and a header tank has a bottom inlet and a top outlet controlled by respective valve pistons which are rigidly connected together by a connecting rod.The pistons have equal areas exposed within the pressure vessel, so as to be pressure balanced at all times. The top valve piston also acts to control opening and closing of a venting port to ensure venting of pressure from a head space during initial opening movement of the valves. The header tank is self-valved and is detachable from the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1979Date of Patent: February 17, 1981Assignee: Sodastream LimitedInventor: Guy Gilbey

Patent number: 3953550Abstract: Apparatus for preparing carbonated beverages has a main body providing a receptacle for a CO.sub.2 cylinder and a hingedly mounted aerating head carrying a tube connected with the cylinder through a manually operated valve and a cylindrical shield coaxial with the tube for receiving a bottle containing the liquid to be carbonated. The shield is accessible for insertion or removal of a bottle only when swung away from the main body. In the operative position of the aerating head, a platform on the main body can be raised by a lever-operated cam to press the neck of the received bottle against a resilient nozzle on the aerating head. A safety valve linked with the cam releases excess pressure in the charged bottle when the platform is lowered.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1974Date of Patent: April 27, 1976Assignee: Sodastream LimitedInventor: Guy Hugh Gilbey
