Abstract: An improved wrapping lotion and permanent waving process is disclosed. The improved waving process produces hair styles characterized as bouncier, more full bodied with an open/looser pattern of curls. The waving process is a step-by-step procedure involving the addition of a rearranger, a wrapping lotion, and a neutralizer, with intermittent rinsing between. The improved quality and setability of the hair is believed attributable to the improved wrapping lotion composition that comprises a homogenous mixture of a guar component and a salt of thioglycolic acid. A preferred wrapping lotion composition includes between about 0.2 and about 2.5% by weight of a nonionic hydroxypropylated guar and between about 0.3 and about 7.0% ammonium thioglycolate. The wrapping lotion composition should also be pH adjusted to between about 7.0 and about 10.5 and have a viscosity in the range from about 500 cps to about 12,000 cps.

The improved waving process produces hair that is characterized as thicker, more full bodied with improved humectant properties and requiring significantly less maintenance than is typically required when conventional waving processes are used. The waving process is a step by step procedure involving the addition of a rearranger, a wrapping lotion, and a neutralizer, in combination with intermittent rinsing. The improved quality and settability of the hair is believed to be attributable to the improved rearranging composition. The rearranging composition comprises a homogeneous mixture of a salt of thioglycolic acid and a homopolymer of methylacrylamidopropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (MAPTAC). A preferred rearranging composition includes a weight ratio of ammonium thioglycolate to monoethanolamine thioglycolate of from about 4:6 to about 7:3 and between about 1.0 to about 3.0% by weight of a cationic homopolymer of MAPTAC.

Abstract: A liquid composition comprising a sunscreen agent, a preservative, and a non-ionic detergent, an amphoteric detergent or a mixture thereof in an aqueous vehicle. The sunscreen agent is selected from an aminobenzoic acid, the esters of an aminobenzoic acid, homosalate, anoxate, and oxybenzone and is present in an amount of not less than about 1 percent by weight of the composition. Applying the composition to the skin periodically leaves an effective amount of the sunscreen agent on the skin even after rinsing to protect the skin against sunburn.

Abstract: An improved hair straightening system based upon a pre-shampoo normalizer is disclosed. The improved system provides for rinsing the hair after the straightening composition has been applied to the hair for a sufficiently long period of time and then applying the pre-shampoo normalizer to the hair before the shampoo step. The pre-shampoo normalizer preferably includes between about 0.25 and about 10% by weight of a medium molecular weight cationic polymer, between about 2 and about 20% by weight of a hydrolyzed animal protein having a molecular weight of between about 200 and about 15,000 and less than about 10% by weight of a surface active agent. The pre-shampoo normalizer should also be adjusted to a pH of between about 2.5 and about 7 by using a conventional acid composition.

Abstract: A method of and composition for increasing the rate of healing of a wound wherein an effective amount of acetaminophen is applied in divided doses to the wound. The acetaminophen is present in an amount of not less than about 0.05 percent by weight of the carrier.

Abstract: A method of treating lice infestations in patients in need of such treatment and composition useful therefor is disclosed and includes topically applying to the lice-infected area an effective amount of one or more of the pediculocide agents selected from the class consisting of the acid salts of demecarium, echothiopate, edrophonium, neostigmine, pyridostigmine and ambenonium; and isoflurophate; and for a time of at least about 3 to 5 minutes to interrupt the breeding cycle of the lice.
