These ohmic contacts comprise a multilayer metal contact wherein the first layer provides a lasting stable contact with the p-type semiconductor; the additional layers provide the necessary electrical conductivity for the contact to be efficient.

    Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for froth flotation separation of the components of a slurry, having particular utility for the beneficiation of coal by the flotation separation of coal particles from impurities associated therewith, such as ash and sulfur. In this arrangement, a forward product stream is formed in which a mixture of the particulate matter slurry and the chemical reagents is sprayed through a nozzle at a first relatively low pressure onto the surface of water in a forward stream flotation tank to create a floating froth phase containing therein a first quantity of the particulate matter. The remainder of the particulate matter slurry separates from the froth phase by sinking in the water, and the froth phase is separated as a first product.

    Abstract: A large area photovoltaic device having a transparent front contact is made more efficient by a current collector grid formed over the transparent front contact to decrease the series resistance of the device. Where the front contact is between a transparent substrate and the semiconductor layers of the photovoltaic device, the collector grid is embedded in the semiconductor layers. To prevent leakage of current into the collector grid from one semiconductor layer, the collector grid material is selected to form a Schottky barrier junction with that semiconductor layer that blocks the flow of the leakage current. The process for preparing such thin film photovoltaic devices includes etching channels in the semiconductor layers, depositing the collector grid material in the channels, insulating the grid, and depositing a back electrical contact film.

    Abstract: A continuous process for the production of alkyl esters from carboxylic acids wherein an aqueous stream containing a first carboxylic acid, RCO.sub.2 H, is contacted with an organic stream comprising a carboxylic acid ester, R"CO.sub.2 R', so that the organic stream is enriched with RCO.sub.2 H. The RCO.sub.2 H enriched organic stream is separated from the aqueous stream and is contacted with a catalyst to obtain a second carboxylic acid, R"CO.sub.2 H, and a product carboxylic acid ester, RCO.sub.2 R'. The product ester, RCO.sub.2 R', is separated from the second acid, R"CO.sub.2 H, the reactant ester, R"CO.sub.2 R', and the first acid, RCO.sub.2 H, and the second acid, R"CO.sub.2 H, is esterified to obtain the reactant ester, R"CO.sub.2 R', which is recycled to the initial part of the process. In this process R is aliphatic or aromatic, R' is alkyl and R" is aliphatic with at least about 4 carbon atoms.
