  • Patent number: 9444323
Abstract: An electrical power conversion system having a harmonic distortion limiter. The power conversion system includes a power converter having a power input, a power output, a current measurement output signal, and a control signal input. The system further includes a controller having a voltage control subsystem arranged to measure a voltage present at the power output of the power converter and generate a corresponding current reference signal. A current control subsystem of the controller is arranged to receive the current reference signal and the current measurement output signal and generate a corresponding modulation command signal, the modulation command signal of the controller being electrically coupled to the control signal input of the power converter. The power converter is responsive to the modulation command signal to limit harmonic distortion at the power output of the power converter.

  • Patent number: 9170568
Abstract: A fail-safe static switch for controlling the supply of redundant electrical power to critical loads. A first control path has a signal analyzer configured to monitor predetermined characteristics of a power supply voltage. The signal analyzer generates a first failure signal when the characteristics of the power supply voltage monitored by the signal analyzer are not in compliance with predetermined metrics. A second control path has a first electrical circuit configured to monitor predetermined characteristics of the power supply voltage. The first electrical circuit generates a second failure signal when the characteristics of the power supply voltage monitored by the first electrical circuit are not in compliance with predetermined metrics. The fail-safe static switch further includes an output providing an electrical output signal. The electrical output signal changes state when at least one of the first failure signal and the second failure signal are generated.

  • Patent number: 9007794
Abstract: A power supply control system for a power supply having a first half-bridge leg and a second half-bridge leg. In the control system, a first plurality of drive signals are configured to operate a half-bridge as a forward leg while a second plurality of drive signals are configured to operate a half-bridge as a backward leg. A switch element is intermediate the first and second plurality of drive signals and the first and the second half-bridge legs, the switch element being adapted to operate the first half-bridge as a forward leg and the second half-bridge as a backward leg in a first operating mode, the switch element being further adapted to operate the first half-bridge as a backward leg and the second half-bridge as a forward leg in a second operating mode.

  • Publication number: 20140167727
Abstract: A power control system includes a first switch configured to receive electrical power from a power source and selectably provide the electrical power to a load. A current limiter is intermediate the first switch and the load. A second switch is also configured to receive electrical power from the power source and selectably provide electrical power to the load. The power control system includes a soft-start operating mode wherein the first switch is activated to provide the electrical power to the load, current provided to the load being limited by the current limiter. The second switch is also activated to provide the electrical power to the load, the second switch being activated a predetermined period of time after activation of the first switch. The first and second switches are also deactivated while the voltage of the power source exceeds a predetermined level.

  • Publication number: 20140138068
Abstract: A cooling system having a source of pressurized intake air includes a primary fan and a secondary fan spaced apart from the primary fan. The pressurized intake air flows from either of the primary or secondary fans. Ductwork includes an inlet, at least one generally hollow supply plenum in fluid communication with the inlet, and at least one supply opening in fluid communication with the supply plenum. The pressurized intake air is urged into the inlet, through the supply plenum and out of the supply opening as a first air supply. The supply opening is configured to direct the first air supply toward at least one first heat generator. The secondary fan is configured to operate in a predetermined manner corresponding to a status of the primary fan.

  • Publication number: 20130043964
Abstract: A high-frequency transformer includes a plurality of cores having a central leg, the cores being arranged to form core windows that are separated by the central legs. A primary winding has a predetermined length of electrically conductive wire that is wound about the central legs and extends through each of the core windows. One or more secondary windings extend through each core window, generally adjacent to the primary winding. The core windows are sized and shaped to provide a predetermined amount of leakage inductance between the primary and secondary windings, and are further adapted to provide a path for cooling air through an interior portion of the transformer.
