Patents Assigned to Solo Cup Company
  • Patent number: 4548348
Abstract: A disposable cup assembly comprising an integral thermoplastic thin-walled liner having a sidewall of truncated substantially right circular conical shape and having a closed bottom wall, for receiving the beverage. The assembly also includes an integral thermoplastic thin-walled holder for receiving the liner with the holder also having a sidewall of substantially truncated right circular conical shape. The liner and holder include releasable interlocking means for retaining a liner in the holder. The sidewall of the liner has a greater angle of convergence with its axis than does the sidewall of the holder, to form a thermally insulative air pocket beneath the level of the interlocking means. Furthermore, the holder is symmetrical about any plane containing its longitudinal axis so that a plurality of the holders substantially fully telescopically nest in a stack.

  • Patent number: 4042148
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for automatically dispensing cups to a continuously moving flight conveyor having openings for receiving the cups and carrying the same continuously forward through a cup-filling station, a cup capping station and a cup discharge station. A cup filling means travels forwardly while filling the cups and a heat sealer means heat seals cups to the cup rims while traveling forwardly with the cups. At the discharge station, the cups are automatically lifted and transferred from openings in the flight conveyor to a take-off means as the cups continuously travel forwardly. The apparatus is also capable of being modified to operate on an intermittent feed basis with the cups stopping at each of the respective stations.

  • Lid
    Patent number: RE28797
Abstract: A coverall lid or closure for gripping and sealing engagement with the bead of a cuplike container. The lid includes a central panel which is connected to a circumferential cavity by means of a corrugated ring. The cavity is adapted to receive the bead of the container and abut the bead in sealed engagement. A conical skirt extends downward and outward from the lower edge of the cavity. The upper portion of the skirt and the lower portion of the cavity form a waist and this waist is interrupted by a series of circumferentially spaced flutes. The portion of the skirt between the flutes act as lands, each land having a decreasing circumferential extent from a lower portion to an inner portion thereof to facilitate flexing of the lands radially outward when engaged by the container bead. The lower portion of the cavity is moveable into position beneath the bead to grip the latter when the lid is fitted on the container.
