Patents Assigned to Soma Technologies
  • Patent number: 6120779
Abstract: Novel skin care, hair care, nail care, lip care and related external formulations based on partial and complete choline salts of mono, di, tri and polyvalent carboxylic acids of food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical acids are described. These salts have better moisturizing and treating properties compared to the original acids. They tend to form highly elegant cosmetic treatment products when incorporated into lotions, creams, gels, liquids, bars, sticks, sprays and foam products. The mono choline salts of di and polyvalent carboxylic acids are also described in the invention. These mono choline salts tend to retain or enhance the biological properties of the parent molecule with enhanced solubility and bio-availability. These mono choline salts can be formulated as simple solutions and lotions eliminating need of complicated solubilizing systems. The partial and mono choline salts tend to reduce irritation, burning and stinging sensation common to these carboxylic acids.

  • Patent number: 5989535
Abstract: Bioadhesive/mucoadhesive composition in a suspension or emulsion form that delivers drugs to the target tissue in a sustained manner is formulated. A composition, method of manufacture and its application in treatment of mammalian tissue are disclosed. The composition includes a bioadhesive/mucoadhesive polymer in an emulsion or suspension form along with a treating agent. The treating agent could be as simple as water as in the case of mucoadhesive moisturizing agent. The bioadhesive/mucoadhesive polymer is a water dispersible high molecular weight crosslinked polyacrylic acid copolymer with free carboxylic acid groups further crosslinked with a combination mono, di and polyvalent metal ions, cationic polymers and surfactants. Type of metal ion and their concentration can be adjusted to get the desired bio/mucoadhesive properties along with several physical properties that are important to the formulation of dosage forms.

  • Patent number: 5851578
Abstract: A formulation of physiologically-effective clear/translucent beverage containing non-gel forming soluble fibre and a soluble salt of calcium and other mineral supplements along with pharmaceutically-active components with organoleptic properties similar to a regular beverage is disclosed. This formulation refers to a powder mix, a liquid concentrate or a ready-to-drink bottled beverage. The powder mix and the liquid concentrate can be diluted with water or other ingestible liquids to reconstitute into the above beverage. The beverage contains food acids as buffering agents to prevent precipitation and enhance solubilization of the metal salts in neutral or weakly alkaline conditions. The drink could contain other nutrients, vitamins, pharmaceutically active ingredients, liposomes and herbal products. The mineral salts can be incorporated into the beverage either by in situ preparation by reaction of the basic metal salts with food acids or by solubilizing the appropriate preformed organic salts.

  • Patent number: 5543863
Abstract: An eye protecting mask of a video display comprises a frame and an adjustment device. The frame is provided centrally in the top side thereof with a recessed portion which is provided respectively in the inner walls of two sides thereof with a predetermined number of retaining slots and with an opening adjacent to the retaining slots. The adjustment device comprises a base and a pivoting member capable of swiveling on a pivot and corresponding in location to the recessed portion of the frame. The pivoting member is provided respectively at both ends thereof with a retaining portion and a cut adjacent to the retaining portion. The pivoting member is fitted into the recessed portion of the frame such that the two retaining portions of the pivoting member are engaged with the retaining slots of the frame so as to locate properly the eye protecting mask in front of the video display.
