  • Patent number: 7156252
Abstract: A closure system for a container comprises a magnetically permeable element such as a metal ring adapted to be affixed on a container adjacent an opening thereof, and a closure such as a membrane lid having a surface formed by a heat seal material, the closure being heat-sealed to a surface of the magnetically permeable element via the heat seal material. The closure further incorporates a magnetized material structured and arranged to attract the magnetically permeable element so as to affix the closure to the magnetically permeable element following removal of the closure therefrom, whereby the closure system is re-closable by magnetic attraction between the closure and magnetically permeable element.

  • Patent number: 7153466
Abstract: A solid outwardly projecting flange is formed on the side wall of a blow-molded article by providing a blow mold having a circumferential groove that is filled by flowable thermoplastic during a blow cycle. The mold includes a heating system locally disposed adjacent the groove for heating the walls of the groove so as to heat the thermoplastic in this region, thereby reducing the viscosity of the thermoplastic so that it more-readily flows into and completely fills the groove. The mold can also include a cooling system disposed locally adjacent the groove for cooling the flange of the blow-molded article prior to ejection of the article from the mold.

  • Patent number: 7147451
Abstract: An apparatus for restoring a necked-down end of a plastic core includes molding and curing stations and a core handling system having a carriage for sequentially positioning the core adjacent the stations. The molding and curing stations are heated and cooled, respectively, by heating elements and a chilled coolant. A core handling system includes a core-supporting carriage slidably supported on first rails for engagement between the core and the stations. The first rails are slidably supported on perpendicularly oriented second rails to provide for sequential alignment of the carriage with the molding and curing stations. A control system includes motor drives controlled by a programmable logic controller having a processor. Sensors communicate signals to the processor representing the position of the carriage with respect to the upper rails and the position of the upper rails with respect to the lower rails for actuation and control of the motor drives.

  • Patent number: 7143909
Abstract: A dispenser is provided for delivering a controlled quantity of a granular material. The dispenser includes a container assembly, a diffuser and a metering cup. The container includes a reservoir which supports a disposable cartridge of granular material. The cartridge is supported in the reservoir so as to define a passageway therebetween. A nozzle is defined for the outflow of material from the cartridge. The diffuser is disposed on one end of the container and includes a plurality of apertures. The metering cup is disposed on the opposite end of the container and has an open end adapted to receive granular material. Adjustment of the axial spacing between the nozzle and metering cup varies the quantity of granular material collected in the cup. The granular material is dispensed by inverting the container to a second orientation, such that material flows out of the metering cup, through the passageway and out of the diffuser.

  • Patent number: 7137524
Abstract: A plastic, easy-opening, retortable container for hermetic sealing is provided, and a closure for such a container. The closure includes a plastic membrane having inner and outer portions defined by a groove therebetween. The groove defines a fail portion that can be torn to open the container. A grip portion is connected to the inner portion so that a user can grasp the grip portion and pull the inner portion from the container. The fail portion is strong enough to resist failure during retort but allows the user to easily remove the inner portion to thereby open the container.

  • Patent number: 7131380
Abstract: The present invention provides a printing process and a printed product in which a coating is combined with an additive that lowers the surface tension of the dried coating. The coating pattern is printed on a substrate, and is cured using electron beam (“EB”) processing. An ink is printed on top of the dried coating pattern. The ink flows away from the coating due to the difference in surface tension, forming a pattern of raised ink between the pattern and the coating.

  • Patent number: 7128244
Abstract: A removable safety cap (10) for use with an ink cartridge or other fluid holding container having a nozzle (34) extending from the dispensing end. The safety cap (10) prevents the flow of ink out of the cartridge or, if ink escapes past the dispensing nozzle seal, prevents the flow of ink outside the cap (10). The cap (10) also enables the ink cartridge to be set upright with the dispensing end down without the need for a nest or fixture to help support the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 7121500
Abstract: A stackable winding core in accordance with the invention has a male end and an opposite female end. The ends are configured in such a manner that they do not hinder or prevent the insertion of chucks or mandrels into the core for winding or unwinding of web material about the core. The male end of one core is receivable into the female end of another core so that the cores can be axially stacked end-to-end, the engagement between the ends of the cores keeping the core coaxially aligned with each other. The ends are also configured to support axial loads exerted between the cores.

  • Publication number: 20060213933
Abstract: An end cap is attached to a container body to form a liquid media package for dispensing liquid media. The end cap includes an aperture in fluid communication with the liquid media in the package. The end cap also includes at least one radial arm extending outwardly from the aperture, each radial arm being in fluid communication with the aperture. Each radial arm includes at least one flexible wiper in a closed position, and one orifice corresponding to each of the at least one flexible wipers. When pressure is exerted on the liquid media, the liquid media travels through the aperture and then through the radial arms. The pressure of the liquid media displaces the flexible wiper so as to enable flow of the liquid media through an orifice in the bottom of the end cap. The flexible wiper returns to the closed position when exertion of pressure ceases.

  • Patent number: 7078082
Abstract: A tail end of a web is attached to a winding core via a two-component mechanism having a core component attached to the core and a web component attached to the web, the two components being attached to each other in releasable fashion. The mechanism assists startup of winding. Upon completion of unwinding, the web component detaches from the core component to expose a region of adhesive on a part of the web component that extends from the tail end of the web. The tail end thus can be spliced to a leading end of another web by attaching the leading end to the exposed adhesive on the web component.
