Patent number: 11270506Abstract: In graphics processing data is received representing one or more vertices for a scene in a virtual space. A projection of the vertices onto a screen space of a display device is performed. A density of the vertices is adjusted for selected portions of the screen space, such that a lower density of vertices is present in selected portions of the screen space. Primitive assembly is performed on the vertices to generate a one or more primitives in screen space from the projection of the vertices onto the screen space. A finished frame is then generated by performing pixel processing to assign pixel values to the pixel or pixels that are part of the corresponding primitives. In some implementations, the finished frame can be stored in the memory or displayed on the display device.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2020Date of Patent: March 8, 2022Assignee: SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT INC.Inventors: Jun Murakawa, John Doolittle, Justin Beck, Brendan Rehon, Michael Thomas Kutner

Publication number: 20170287301Abstract: A proximity device, a computer-implemented method, and proximity system are described. Generally, the proximity device can be wearable or non-wearable. A wearable proximity device is configured to be worn by a user. As the user moves within a physical environment, the wearable proximity devices monitors the user's proximity to objects. Proximity indications are accordingly generated and presented to the user. A non-wearable proximity device is configured to monitor the user's proximity relative to a perimeter of an area. If the user approaches or overruns the perimeter, a proximity indication is generated and presented to the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2016Publication date: October 5, 2017Applicant: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.Inventors: MICHAEL G. Publication number: 20170282063Abstract: A video game console, a video game system, and a computer-implemented method are described. Generally, a video game and video game assistance are adapted to a player. For example, a narrative of the video game is personalized to an experience level of the player. Similarly, assistance in interacting with a particular context of the video game is also personalized. The personalization learns from historical interactions of players with the video game and, optionally, other video games. In an example, a deep learning neural network is implemented to generate knowledge from the historical interactions. The personalization is set according to the knowledge.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2016Publication date: October 5, 2017Applicant: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.Inventor: Sudha Krishnamurthy

Publication number: 20170282062Abstract: A virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), a computer-implemented method, and a VR tracking system are described. Generally, a VR HMD includes an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and an optical sensor. When a second VR HMD is located in a same physical environment, the VR HMD can be operated to track a motion of the second VR HMD in the physical environment. For example, image data captured by the VR HMD in addition to inertial data of both VR HMDs are used to determine a three dimensional (3D) physical position of the second VR HMD and to track the 3D physical position over time. Three degrees of freedom (DOF) or six DOF for the motion are derived from the tracking.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2016Publication date: October 5, 2017Applicant: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.Inventor: Glenn T. Publication number: 20170289527Abstract: A reconfigurable imaging apparatus, a computer-implemented method, and an imaging system are described. Generally, the apparatus includes platforms. Each platform houses one or more optical sensors. A pivotal connector is connected with at least two platforms and supports a relative movement of such platforms with respect to one another. Hence, the platforms can be arranged and switched between different arrangements based on the pivotal connector, thereby allowing a reconfiguration of the apparatus. In an example, arrangement, the optical sensors are pointed in different directions to cover different fields of views, thereby supporting monoscopic imagery. In another example arrangement, the optical sensors are pointed in substantially a same direction to cover substantially a same field of view, thereby supporting stereoscopic imagery.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2016Publication date: October 5, 2017Applicant: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.Inventors: MICHAEL G. Patent number: 9566507Abstract: A game controller includes a plurality of LEDs formed on the rear of a case. The plurality of LEDs are arranged two-dimensionally in its layout area. The game controller has a plurality of PWM control units which are provided inside the case and control the lighting of the plurality of LEDs, respectively. The PWM control units control the lighting of the LEDs based on a control signal from a game apparatus. The game apparatus acquires a captured image of the game controller, and acquires the position of the game controller in the captured image based on the positions of the LEDs in the captured image.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2015Date of Patent: February 14, 2017Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.Inventors: Teiyu Goto, Katsu Saito, Akio Ohba, Hiroyuki Segawa

Patent number: 9529905Abstract: To be able to change settings for selective changing control of a program as a target for sound input/output flexibly. A background music (BGM) sound selection managing section obtains priority values set to a plurality of programs, respectively. The BGM sound selection managing section performs control such that a program selected from among the plurality of programs on a basis of the obtained priority values becomes a target for selective sound input/output from/to an outside.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2012Date of Patent: December 27, 2016Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.Inventors: Naoki Kitahara, Akihito Nagata

Patent number: 9465226Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are presented for shutting down the 3D effect of active shutter 3D glasses by synchronizing the transparency of the lenses with respect to each other when the 3D glasses have been rotated beyond a threshold angle. The threshold angle can be pre-set through a user-selectable switch. Transitioning from an alternating shutter mode to a synchronized shutter mode can include a fade in which the duty cycles of the lens are adjusted. Direct measurement techniques for measuring the differential roll angle between the lenses and left and right eye images on a display are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2011Date of Patent: October 11, 2016Assignee: SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT INC.Inventor: Steven Osman
