Abstract: A smart wearable device with sensors that can acquire biological input about the user as well as environmental data is presented. Theses sensors can acquire sensor input which causes the smart wearable device to identify a required task to perform. If the smart wearable device determines that the task can only be performed properly by acquiring new capabilities, the smart wearable device can automatically acquire the necessary capabilities from various data sources and configure itself to perform the task properly.

Abstract: A microparticle sorting apparatus includes a detection unit which detects microparticles flowing through a flow path; an imaging device which images a droplet containing the microparticles which is discharged from an orifice provided on an edge portion of the flow path; a charge unit which applies a charge to the droplets; and a control unit which determines a delay time as from a time that the microparticles are detected by the detection unit to the time at which the sum of intensity of an image region imaged by the imaging device reaches a maximum, making it possible for the charge unit to apply a charge to the microparticles once the delay time has lapsed after the microparticles are detected by the detection unit.

Abstract: Various devices and systems may benefit from enhanced reading of optical media. For example, certain computer systems may benefit from array reading of optical media. An apparatus may include, for example, an array of optical sensors. The array of optical sensors may be configured to read a plurality of parallel linear strips of data from an optical medium.
Abstract: Implementations generally relate to storage systems. In one implementation, a system includes a plurality of storage libraries that store a plurality of removable media units. The system also includes a plurality of head units for reading and writing to one or more of the removable media units. The system also includes a plurality of robots that transfer one or more of the removable media units between one or more of the storage libraries and one or more of the head units. The system also includes enabling one or more of the robots to recover a set of data from two or more of the removable media units if a failure occurs in association with at least one of the other removable media units.

Abstract: A wearable sensor device, system and method are provided for monitoring the attention, workload or other physical status of the wearer of the wearable sensor device. At least one biometric index value is formulated for a characteristic status from the processed sensor data of the sensors of the device and the biometric index value may also incorporate prior test data and questionnaire response information in the calculated value. The system may include any number of wearable devices that have sensors, a processor and a communications link as well as a remote computer and a non-wearable device with an interface. The status of the wearer of a wearable sensor device can be monitored with the simple display of the biometric index value as well as the data from the individual sensors.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for detecting, characterizing, and compensating motion-related error of moving micro-entities are described. Motion-related error may occur in streams of moving micro-entities, and may represent a deviation in and expected arrival time or an uncertainty in position of a micro-entity within the stream. Motion-related error of micro-entities is observed in a flow cytometer, e.g., as pulse jitter, and is found to have a functional dependence on a parameter of the system. The pulse jitter can be compensated, according to one embodiment, by adjusting data acquisition observation windows. For the flow cytometer, a reduction of pulse jitter can improve measurement accuracy, resolution of doublets, system throughput, and enable an increase in an interrogation region for probing the micro-entities.
