Abstract: There is provided a composite wiring board that occupies a small space and is low in price and a manufacturing method thereof; the composite wiring board comprises at least two rigid wiring boards on end faces of which connection portions are formed, in which each of the rigid wiring boards is arranged so that each of the connection portions is situated on a plane and each of corresponding connection portions is connected with each other in the plane.
Abstract: A cathode-ray tube according to the present invention is able to automatically correct a color shading caused due to a repulsion effect and the like, which occurs between electron beams. An electron gun for use with the cathode-ray tube according to the present invention includes beam apertures bored through a first electrode opposing a cathode disposed in an inline fashion. Further, beam apertures through which so-called side beams pass are bored with a predetermined inclination relative to the opposing cathodes. Consequently, an electron lens formed between the cathode and the first electrode becomes an axial-asymmetric electron lens. The curvature of this electron lens is changed in response to a drive voltage of the cathode. When this curvature is changed, the trajectories of electron beams are changed to cancel an influence caused by a repulsion effect. Thus, a color shading can be corrected automatically.

Abstract: A video recording apparatus having a storage means to store program reservation data and equipped with a reserved recording function which utilizes program ID superimposed on broadcast signal. This apparatus includes a time difference table to store data of time differences between the sites of broadcasting stations and a receiving site, and when the program ID is to be stored as reservation data, the program ID is corrected with reference to the time difference table and then the corrected data is stored. The program ID inputted as reservation data represents the hour at the receiving site. Therefore, even when PIL data are mutually different due to the time difference between any selected broadcasting station and the receiving site, reserved recording of a desired program can be performed exactly on the basis of PDC or VPS with mere setting of the relevant country by a user, hence enhancing the operability and reliability of the apparatus.
Abstract: Reducing the maximum value of the local average SAR to be absorbed into a human body without forming a short circuit between the conductive plate and the ground conductor is accomplished in a portable radio communication device 1 that includes a circuit board necessary for performing radio communication, a shield case 2 functioning as a ground conductor that shields the circuit board, a conductive plate 3, an antenna feeding portion 4, and an antenna 5. The circuit board, shield case 2, and conductive plate 3 are enclosed by a housing made of nonconductive material. The conductive plate 3 has its both ends along the longitudinal direction electrically opened from the shield case 2.

Abstract: A robot is provided which comprises a body unit, plural component units connected to the body unit, a memory mounted on the body unit for storing unit information of each of the component units and a basic operation program, a control unit mounted on the body unit for controlling the action of the robot, and a memory unit detachably mounted on the body unit for storing application program of the robot. The control unit reads out (i) the unit information, (ii) the basic operation program and (iii) the application program, and controls the component units in accordance with the read unit information, basic program, and application program.
Abstract: A cathode ray tube including a color selecting, electrode having a plurality of metal tapes; a rectangular frame for holding the color selecting electrode under tension; a plate spring having one end fixed to the frame and the other end having an engaging hole; and a panel having a pin for engaging the engaging hole of the plate spring, the panel being held to the frame by the plate spring; wherein a resonance frequency of the plate spring is different from a resonance frequency of the metal tapes. Since the resonance frequency of the plate spring is different from the resonance frequency of the metal tapes, possible resonance of the metal tapes with a large amplitude by the vibrations of the plate spring due to external vibrations applied to the cathode ray tube can be prevented. Therefore, even though the color selecting electrode has a fine pitch with a large screen and a high definition, the cathode ray tube has vibration resistance to prevent color deviation or the like due to the vibrations.

Abstract: An image display device incorporating a screen protection arrangement and method of installing a protector screen on an image display device includes a device housing, a display screen installed in a wall portion of the device housing, a screen frame attached to the device housing so as to overlap peripheral edges of the display screen to define a frame opening bordering the display screen, top and bottom bracket portions provided on top and bottom edges of the screen frame and a protector screen which is attached to the image display device by mating its top and bottom edges with the top and bottom bracket portions. The arrangement results in a gap of less than 3.5 mm between the screen and the screen frame and allows installation of a protector screen to any generic screen frame of an image display device.

Abstract: A data recording and reproducing apparatus for recording and reproducing video signals in a plurality of formats with different rates to/from a record medium is disclosed. In the data recording and reproducing apparatus, a video signal in a selected format is converted into video data packets and audio data packets whose lengths are optimally designated corresponding to the selected format. With a video data packet and an audio data packet, a video sync block and an audio sync block whose lengths are different are formed, respectively. The video sync block and the audio sync block are encoded with respective error correction codes. The resultant data is recorded as record data to a record medium.
Corresponding to the data rate of the video signal, at least one data packet is placed in one video sync block.

Abstract: A head positioning control apparatus and method which compensates for positional deviation of a magnetic head with respect to the positioning of the head on a particular track of a disc recording medium via a tracking control. Additionally, during a seek mode of the apparatus, a head that was positioned as a result of the tracking control is moved to a neighboring track of the disc recording medium. The seek mode uses the information obtained during the tracking mode to correct any disturbance frequencies occurring in synchronism with the rotational frequency of the disc recording medium, even if the head travels over a large distance.
Abstract: When a copy of music data recorded in an HDD to another electronic equipment is instructed, an accounting process is performed or a sound quality deteriorating process is performed based on a selection. When the accounting process is performed, after a predetermined accounting procedure is performed, a data copying process is performed and the data is outputted to a copy destination. When the accounting process is performed, a quality of the data is held to be almost identical to that of the original data. When the sound quality deteriorating process is selected, a data conversion is performed by a predetermined sound quality deteriorating process, the quality of the data is deteriorated, and the deteriorated data is outputted to the copy destination. In this case, the accounting is not performed. Where the data is moved, the accounting process and the sound quality deteriorating process are not performed.

Abstract: In a horizontal driving system of a liquid crystal display, the high frequency of a master clock MCLK and complex wiring to an external substrate for transmitting the master clock MCLK cause disadvantageous unwanted radiation. A sample and hold circuit for sampling and holding a video signal based on the master clock MCLK is provided with a built-in PLL circuit for generating the master clock MCLK in order to eliminate complex wiring for transmitting the master clock MCLK and to reduce unwanted radiation.
Abstract: After making a GaN FET by growing GaN semiconductor layers on the surface of a sapphire substrate, the bottom surface of the sapphire substrate is processed by lapping, using an abrasive liquid containing a diamond granular abrasive material and reducing the grain size of the abrasive material in some steps, to reduce the thickness of the sapphire substrate to 100 &mgr;m or less. Thereafter, the bottom surface of the sapphire substrate is processed by etching using an etchant of phosphoric acid or phosphoric acid/sulfuric acid mixed liquid to remove a strained layer by lapping followed by making a via hole by etching the bottom surface of the sapphire substrate by using a similar etchant.

Abstract: Provided are a semiconductor device which shows excellent negative differential conductance or negative transconductance and is manufactured without a complicated manufacturing process and a method of manufacturing the same. The semiconductor device includes a channel layer serving as a conduction region and a floating region electrically separated from the channel layer. Provided between the channel layer and the floating region is a quantum well layer constituted with a pair of barrier layers and a quantum well layer sandwiched between the pair of barrier layers. A source electrode and a drain electrode are electrically connected to the channel layer. A gate electrode is provided in an opposite position from the well layer in the floating region. When changing a drain voltage relative to a predetermined gate voltage, drain current characteristics show negative differential conductance.
Abstract: The package-side land 3a of a semiconductor package P1 is wholly exposed into the opening 5a of a solder resist layer 5. The board-side land 12a of the mount board B1 is also wholly exposed into the opening 13a of a solder resist layer 13. When the semiconductor package P1 and the mount board B1 are joined to each other through a soldering layer 14a, the soldering layer 14a is brought into contact to both the lands 3a and 12a while extending to the side wall surfaces thereof so that the joint strength can be enhanced by the increasing contact area and the shape. When the lands 3a and 12a are set to be equal to each other in dimension and shape, the soldering layer 14a is shaped into a pillar having a substantially uniform section, thereby preventing local concentration of stress.
Abstract: An LDD structure of a thin film transistor for pixel switching is realized on a large glass substrate by low-temperature processes. A thin film semiconductor device for display comprises a display part and a peripheral driving part formed on a glass substrate (0). Pixel electrodes (9) and NchLDD-TFTs are arranged in a matrix in the display part. Thin film transistor PchTFTs and NchTFTs which constitute circuit elements are formed in the peripheral driving part. Each thin film transistor consists of a gate electrode (1), an insulating film (2) formed on the gate electrode (1), a polycrystalline semiconductor layer (32) formed on the insulating layer (2), and a high concentration impurity layer constituting a source (4) and a drain (7) formed on the polycrystalline semiconductor layer (3).
