Abstract: A selective encryption encoder consistent with certain embodiments of the invention has a packet identifier that identifies packets of a specified packet type, the specified packet type being defined by packets occurring in a star pattern approximately situated at an upper center of an image which contain intra-coded macroblocks. A packet duplicator duplicates the identified packets to produce first and second sets of the identified packets. The packets are sent to and from a primary encryption encoder to encrypt the first set of identified packets under a first encryption method. A secondary encrypter encrypts the second set of identified packets under a second encryption method.

Abstract: An abnormal operation in which a current flows through a switching device before the end of an off period of the switching device at medium load is eliminated by setting the coupling coefficient of an isolated converter transformer to about 0.7 or lower. A primary side parallel resonance frequency and a secondary side series resonance frequency are set so as to obtain favorable power conversion efficiency characteristics.
Abstract: A task management system that inherit priority and that can reduce the queue operation required for transition to/return from a mutual exclusion awaiting state The task management system can execute a task without considering its priority, start or stop a server task and inherit priority without operating the dispatch queue. The task management system includes activity retaining information, context retaining information, and a dispatch queue used to select the highest priority task. Information on a task is divided and managed by the activity and the context, where each activity is inserted into/deleted from the dispatch queue. When the priority of a task is inherited by another task, only the correspondence between activity and context is changed.
Abstract: An optimum performance is achieved relative to write-once type optical recording mediums on which information is recorded by means of a blue-violet semiconductor laser. An optical disc recording/reproduction apparatus 10 comprises an LD control section 17 adapted to control the irradiation power of a laser when writing data. If the cycle of the channel clock is T, when forming a recording mark having a length of n×T (n being an integer not smaller than 2), a pulse beam is irradiated onto the write-once type information recording medium for n/2 times (decimals, if any, being to be rounded down). When forming a recording mark having a length of not smaller than 6T and even number times of T, a pulse beam is irradiated for n/2 times with all the intermediate pulse beams synchronized with the phase of the channel clock except the leading pulse beam and the tail end pulse beam.
Abstract: An information processing system comprises an information providing medium that stores information in an electromagnetic or optical manner, the information providing medium being attached to an entity in order to provide information associated with the entity; a hand held terminal device having an information read function that reads information from the information providing medium in an electromagnetic or optical manner and record the information; and an information processing unit for retrieving the information recorded in the hand held terminal device; wherein the information providing medium is inconspicuously attached to the entity. In this manner, the information can be recorded into the hand held terminal for later use by a user.
Abstract: A method is provided of fabricating a damascene interconnection. The method begins by forming on a substrate a first dielectric layer, a capping layer on the first dielectric sublayer and a resist pattern over the capping layer to define a first interconnect opening. The capping layer and the dielectric layer are etched through the resist pattern to form the first interconnect opening. The resist pattern is removed and a barrier layer is applied over the capping layer and in the first interconnect opening. An interconnection is formed by filling the first interconnect opening with conductive material. The interconnection is planarized to remove excess material and a portion of the first dielectric layer damaged by the planarizing step is selectively etched. A second dielectric layer is applied to replace the damaged portion of the first dielectric.

Abstract: A disc conveying apparatus includes a first conveyor unit having a plurality of rollers which are arranged along a conveying path of a disc-shaped recording medium with gaps therebetween, which move in a direction away from the conveying path and rotate individually, and which convey the disc-shaped recording medium by successively rolling on a peripheral surface of the disc-shaped recording medium to pass the disc-shaped recording medium from one to another, a second conveyor unit which faces the first conveyor unit across the disc-shaped recording medium being conveyed, which is oriented along the conveying path, and which retains the disc-shaped recording medium between the first conveyor unit and the second conveyor unit, and a control unit which detects the position of the disc-shaped recording medium and controls the rotation of the rollers on the basis of the movement of the rollers in the direction away from the conveying path.

Abstract: An imaging apparatus includes: an imaging section configured to approximate one of color matching functions representing sensitivity of the human eye to color by a spectral sensitivity that is obtained as a difference in output between, from among mutually adjacent photoelectric conversion elements, the photoelectric conversion elements arranged at predetermined positions, the imaging section having the photoelectric conversion elements arranged at the predetermined positions; and a signal processing section configured to apply to an output of the imaging section signal processing for converting an output of a photoelectric conversion element into a signal of a color image.
Abstract: A video stream is encoded with a prediction mode of which a picture later than an I picture in the display order is predicted from a picture earlier than the I picture in the display order and recorded on a record medium so that the video stream reproduced from the record medium is randomly accessible. When a video stream is encoded, the prediction mode of which a picture later than an I picture in the display order is predicted from a picture earlier than the I picture in the display order is prohibited. In addition, EP_map that correlates reproduction time information of an I picture to a packet number of the I picture is created and recorded on the record medium along with a packetized encoded stream. When the video stream is reproduced, EP_map is searched for a packet number corresponding to a designated reproduction time. Corresponding to the obtained packet number, decoding of an encoded stream reproduced from the record medium is controlled.
