Abstract: A host connects to a peripheral device having upgraded firmware. The host also includes a device driver to communicate with the peripheral device. If the device drivers currently installed on the host are not compatible with the upgraded firmware, upgraded device drivers are automatically downloaded to the host from the peripheral device. Once installed on the host, the peripheral device is reset and the upgraded device drivers are used to communicate with the peripheral device.
Abstract: Methods for providing a user state file enabling interactions between virtual and real world identities include determining a real world identity of a user and determining a virtual world identity of the user. An associated user designation is provided for a first and a second associated user. A real world identity and/or a virtual world identity is determined for the associated users. The first associated user has at least a real world identity and the second associated user has at least a virtual world identity. A communication history is established between the user and the first and second associated users, the communication history including communications in the real world and/or the virtual world. The user state file is generated based on the determined real world and virtual world identities of the user and the associated users and the communication history between the user and the associated users.
Abstract: A communication device is provided that includes a speaker for outputting a ringing signal, a microphone for receiving the ringing signal, and logic configured to analyze the spectral content of the received ringing signal and adjust noise reduction parameters and echo cancellation parameters based on the analyzed spectral content of the received ringing signal.

Abstract: A multiple antenna system is described herein that mitigates the negative effects of mutually coupled antennas on the connected transmitters and/or receivers. The antenna system comprises a directional coupler and two or more antennas. The directional coupler comprises multiple communication ports that each connect to corresponding antenna ports. The connection ports each connect to a different transmitter, receiver, or transceiver. A transmission line connects each antenna port to an antenna. The lengths of the transmission lines and the coupling factor of the directional coupler are selected to decouple the communication ports of the directional coupler. More particularly, the coupling factor and the transmission line lengths are selected so that antenna crosstalk signals caused by mutual coupling between the antennas and the coupled signals produced by the directional coupler have the same magnitude but opposite phase at the communication ports of the directional coupler.
Abstract: A device may include a processor and a touch screen to display a soft keyboard. The processor may be configured to detect a touch within a touch-sensitive area within a first soft key of the soft keyboard, detect a keystroke corresponding to a second soft key of the soft keyboard, determine whether the second soft key is a backspace key, detect a keystroke corresponding to a third soft key of the soft keyboard when the processor determines that the second soft key is the backspace key, and adjust the touch-sensitive area when the processor determines that the first soft key neighbors the third soft key.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method in a sending device for sending information to a receiving device. The sending device is adapted to emit electromagnetic radiation with different wavelengths. The method comprises sending electromagnetic radiation of a norm wavelength to the receiving device and sending electromagnetic radiation of a second wavelength to the receiving device. The difference between the first wavelength and the second wavelength per time unit represents information to be sent to the receiving device. The present invention also relates to a computer program for performing a method of sending information, a sending device, a method for receiving information, a receiving device and a computer program for performing a method of receiving information.
Abstract: A method, device and computer program for coordinating a communication session between an individual and a user of a portable communication device. A portable communication device is provided having an appointment application program stored in memory. The appointment application program includes a queue indicative of a plurality of contacts that are required to contact an associated user of the portable communication device during a predetermined period from an authorized contact number. When the user of the portable communication device 10 receives a telephone call, the call is processed to determine if the telephone call is from one of the authorized contact numbers associated with one of the contacts from queue.
Abstract: A method and system for evaluating proximity of the electronic device to a wireless local area network (WLAN) involves generating a location where the location is defined by a list of cellular communication access points that is sorted based on signal strength for each access point. The list may be scored against one or more similarly defined reference locations to determine if the electronic device is at a geographic position that is favorable to probe for a WLAN that the electronic device was connected to at a prior time, but is presently not connected.

Abstract: A method and computer program product are described herein for remotely controlling a first image capturing unit in a portable electronic device as well as to such a portable electronic device. The portable electronic device may include a first and a second image capturing unit. The device detects and tracks an object via the second capturing unit and detects changes in an area of the object. These changes are then used for controlling the first image capturing unit remotely. When the control involves capturing of images an improved image quality can be obtained. Also the time it takes to capture an image is reduced.

Abstract: A technique for supplying alternative contact information when a communication attempt is unsuccessful is described. The technique comprises receiving an inquiry that includes an indication of an unsuccessful communication attempt and an identifier or address for the target of the failed communication attempt. Next, it is determined whether the identifier or address is associated with a group.
