Abstract: A portable communication device includes a subscriber identity module (SIM) card having a memory and a processor, a device-activity SIM application toolkit (SAT) application stored on the memory. When the device-activity SAT application is accessed by the processor and executed, the device-activity SAT application causes the SIM card to interface with the portable communication track device communication activity and/or device location, store device-activity data representative of the tracked device communication activity and/or device location, and upload the device-activity data to a remote device-activity server. The device-activity SAT application facilitates access to instantaneous device-activity data via device-activity data collection and uploading to a remote server accessible via the Internet.

  • Publication number: 20080180283
Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for inputting Chinese characters and phrases in electronic equipment, such as, for example, portable communications devices. A cross media bar is provided wherein a user selects an alphanumeric character based on a pronunciation of a Chinese character (e.g., Pinyin method of Chinese text enter) that the user desires to input into the electronic equipment. The candidate characters associated with the selected character are displayed in a first format (e.g. a substantially horizontal format) on a display of the electronic equipment. The user is then able to select at least one candidate Chinese character that corresponds to the selected pronunciation. The candidate Chinese characters are displayed to the user in a second format (e.g., a substantially vertical format) on the display. The candidate Chinese characters extend across the portion of the display presenting the candidate characters.

  • Patent number: 7406331
Abstract: A combination mobile communication device and camera that combines a hand-held mobile terminal and camera in the same physical package is described herein. The combination mobile communication device and camera uses one or more multi-function controls to control communication functions and camera functions. A user selectively places the device in either a communication mode for engaging in wireless communication with a remote device, or in a camera mode for capturing and/or viewing images. A multi-function control disposed on a side of the combination mobile communication device and camera comprises a multi-directional button that controls a communication function, such as the volume of the speaker, when the device is in a communication mode. When the device is in a camera mode, the multi-function control is used as a zoom control.

  • Patent number: 7405701
Abstract: The method and apparatus described herein improves the bandwidth of a selected frequency band of a multi-band antenna. In particular, a selection circuit selectively applies capacitive coupling to the multi-band antenna to improve the bandwidth of a first frequency band without adversely affecting the bandwidth of a second frequency band. To that end, the multi-band antenna of the present invention comprises a main antenna element and a parasitic element disposed proximate the main antenna element. When the multi-band antenna operates in the first frequency band, the main antenna element capacitively couples to the parasitic element. However, when the multi-band antenna operates in the second frequency band, the selection circuit disables the capacitive coupling.

  • Publication number: 20080178082
Abstract: The invention relates to a device (1) with an interaction dependent user interface (2). Particularly a value of a parameter of an object (5) of the interface is dependent of the user activities, i.e. an object of the interface behaves differently in dependence of how fast the user is navigating and how frequent selections are made. In one embodiment, the user interface comprises a menu (3) of selectable items (4). The function is defined such that the value of the parameter is increased by an increment every time the user selects a new item and the increment is decaying with time, the value of the parameter varying between a maximum and a minimum value.

  • Patent number: 7403628
Abstract: A transducer assembly includes a transducer and a coupler with rheological material. A loudspeaker further includes an acoustic radiator. The coupler is mounted to the transducer and is operatively connected to the acoustic radiator. The transducer excites bending waves in the acoustic radiator to produce an acoustic output. By control of the rheological material, which may include mageto-rheological liquid or electro-rheological liquid, the transducer in various embodiments may selectively be substantially rigidly or substantially flexibly coupled to the acoustic radiator. If flexibly coupled the force experienced by the transducer when the host device is dropped, jarred, or pressured may be reduced from that experienced with a rigid connection. The acoustic radiator may be, for example, a display such as an LCD or a window mounted over a display. A mobile terminal may include such a loudspeaker in accordance with one embodiment.
