Abstract: A device for communications may include a scanner to scan an object or code. The device for communications may include a processor to perform a selected function related to the scanned object or code.
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards a method, a link check device, and a portable communication device for communication link check. The link check device (102) comprises a receiver unit (104) for receiving and monitoring information including a power control signal from a base station on a first link (109). A first and second signal generating unit (110, 112) connected to said receiver unit (104) provide a first and second noise signal (R1, R2), which are transmitted to a combining unit (114) to provide a third signal representing signal (R3) strength for communication links.
Abstract: A personal electronic device includes a multi-function jack that has at least one contact configured for both power and data connections. In an exemplary embodiment, the jack is based on an industry standard audio or barrel jack for compatibility with standard audio or barrel plugs. The shared power and data contact eliminates the need for personal electronic devices, such as mobile telephones, to have separate connectors and/or custom connectors for different types of peripheral devices.

Abstract: A system and method of operating a mobile phone accessory communicable with a mobile phone. The present invention dynamically loads software into a mobile phone from a mobile phone accessory to enable better management of the accessory's resources and capabilities. After a communication link is established between the mobile phone and mobile phone accessory, both devices exchange information to determine the appropriate software to transfer. A verification process then ensures that the mobile phone and mobile phone accessory are authorized to receive and transfer software, respectively. Subsequently, software is transferred from the mobile phone accessory to be stored in the mobile phone. The mobile phone is capable of executing the downloaded software. Specifically, the mobile phone contains the necessary API(s) and processor hardware needed to run a variety of software.
Abstract: An electronic device can be operated to detect noise, such as wind noise. A microphone signal is generated by a microphone. Autocorrelation coefficients are determined based on the microphone signal. Gradient values are determined from the autocorrelation coefficients.
Abstract: A headset system has a headset for direct wireless communication of audio data with a communication terminal and including a first power supply unit. The system includes a headset carrying device and a charger for charging the first power supply unit from a second poser supply unit. The headset carrying device includes the charger and the second power supply unit, and the headset carrying device is separate from the communication terminal.
Abstract: A menu structure in an information presentation device enables navigation in the menu structure. The information presentation device may include a sound generating unit, at least one first user input unit, and a control unit that provides selectable items in the menu structure. The items may be related to functions, applications or settings of the information presentation device. Each item may be associated with at least one dedicated sound. Upon detection of selection of a specific item via a user input unit, the presentation device may control the sound generating unit to generate the sound associated with the selected item.
Abstract: A method performed by a mobile terminal may include connecting to a network and transmitting a video data session to other mobile terminals. The video data sessions may be stored in a network server and accessed by the other mobile terminals. The method may also include sending invitations to mobile terminals to receive broadcasted video data sessions.
Abstract: The invention relates to a clock display and particularly a clock display comprising a combined electronic display unit and mechanical clock hands. The clock hand has a visible state for showing the time and a transparent state used when in it is not desired to obscure the underlying display unit. The clock display may be incorporated in a portable device, such as a mobile telephone or a wrist watch.
Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a face image extractor portion, a matching image detector portion, a linking processing portion, a communication address information acquiring portion, and a controller portion. The face image extractor portion extracts a face image of a person in a still image content. The matching image detector portion detects from a memory containing or storing face images and communication address information of respective users the matching face image matching with the extracted face image, which has been extracted by the face image extractor portion. When the matching face image matching with the extracted face image, which has been extracted by the face image extractor portion, is detected by the matching image detector, the linking processing portion performs a linking process to link the extracted face image and communication address information corresponding to the extracted face image and stored in the memory.

Abstract: Mobile terminals may connect to one another of dynamically formed local networks to exchange certain files, such as bandwidth intensive files. Licensing or payment information for these files may be exchanged via a wide-area network, such as the cellular network to which the mobile terminals normally connect. In one embodiment, a mobile terminal includes logic to join a local network in response to the mobile terminal coming into range of the local network; logic to request a file from the local network; logic to receive the file from the local network when the file is available from another mobile terminal in the local network; and logic to exchange payment or license information for the file over a cellular network.
Abstract: A method and device are provided for configuring a mobile device to control a controllable device. A wireless control signal is sent to the controllable device. Control command information is wirelessly received from the controllable device. The mobile device is configured to control the controllable device based on the received control command information.
Abstract: Resources may be dynamically allocated in a distributed processing portable electronic communication device. The dynamic allocation may include receiving an instruction to process an audio processing task related to audio data; determining whether resources for processing the processing task are available at a first processing unit; performing the audio processing task by the first processing unit when the resources are determined to be available, the audio processing task obtaining processed audio data; and providing the processed audio data synchronously with a global synchronization pulse so that the phase of the audio data is controlled.

Abstract: A method of selecting a communication system is disclosed. The method includes receiving at least a quality indicator for a channel; scanning any channels on a channel scan list in response to at least the quality indicator of the channel being below a predetermined threshold value; and acquiring another channel from the channel scan list in response to the other channel having at least the quality indicator greater than or equal to the predetermined threshold value.
Abstract: The invention relates to a portable device (1A) with a short range communication feature, and more particularly a portable device such as a mobile telephone having a man-machine interface enabling user friendly use of short range communication. With the present invention an item (6) may be selected and dragged on the display (2), e.g. towards another apparatus (1B). This action initiates an automatic data transfer procedure using short range communication.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method in a first communications device for sharing an application with a second communication device. The method comprises the steps of: Sending a first short message service (SMS) to the second device. The first SMS comprises a link to a place from where the application can be downloaded into the second device. The first SMS comprises an identity for the second device to use for initiating an IP connection between the first device and the second device and the second device. The method comprises the further step of being connected by the second device for setting up an IP connection between the first device and the second device. The method comprises the further step of communicating with the second device in an IP connection sharing the application.
