Abstract: A camera configured to generate audio/video signals, the camera including a recording unit configured to record the audio/video signals on a recording medium, a meta data generation processor configured to generate automatically meta data identifying the content of the audio/video signals in response to the audio/video signals, a wireless communications processor configured to communicate the meta data separately from the recording medium, and a communications interface configured to communicate the automatically generated meta data to a personal data processing apparatus and to receive user generated meta data from the personal data processing apparatus.

Abstract: In a peer-to-peer network of peers which are interconnected for sharing content data, the peers store content files of content data in a file structure comprising a plurality of content folders each content folder containing any number of content files of related content data, and a description file containing both unique identification information and descriptive information in XML format describing the content file or files stored in the same content folder. Requesting peers transmit search query messages which specify search criteria for passage through the network. Peers receiving a search query message compare the search criteria with the descriptive information contained in the description files in each of their plurality of content folders and in the event of there being a matching content folder transmit a hit message including the identification information to identify the matching content folder for passage back through the network to the respective requesting peer.

Abstract: A system generates automatically a highlight summary of a performance, from signals representing a captured version of the performance. The system includes a user operated event logging processor and an ingestion processor. The user operated event logging processor is operable to log event codes, each of which is selected by the user from a set of event codes. Each of the event codes in the set of event codes represents a predetermined event which may occur in the performance, the event codes being selected by the user when an event corresponding to the event code occurs during an observed performance. The ingestion processor is operable to receive the event codes and to receive signals produced by capturing a representation of the performance.

Abstract: An audio and/or video generation apparatus which is arranged in operation to generate audio and/or video signals representative of an audio and/or video source, the audio and/or video generation apparatus including a recording unit which is arranged in operation to record the audio and/or video signals on a recording medium, wherein the audio and/or video generation apparatus is arranged to receive metadata associated with the audio and/or video signals generated by a data processor, the recording unit being arranged in operation to record the metadata on the recording medium with the audio and/or video signals. The data processor may be arranged to receive signals representative of the time codes of the recorded audio/video signals, and the metadata may include time code data representative of the in and out points of a take of the audio/video signals generated by the data processor.

Abstract: In a television recording apparatus having a storage unit capable of storing recordings of television signals, during reproduction of a recording, an analysis of the reproduced television signal is performed to detect a credits sequence of a program. Responsive to input of a command to cease reproduction before the end of a recording, in the event that the command is input after the detected credits sequence, then the recording is deleted or there is displayed a graphical interface providing for user input to indicate a desire for deletion of the recording or not.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus generating output pixel values with respect to pixels of an input image selected in accordance with an image feature direction in the input image and including a comparing mechanism comparing blocks of pixels of the input image, the blocks disposed with respect to a pixel position under test so that a correlation between the blocks would indicate an image feature direction applicable to that pixel position; and a validating mechanism detecting whether an image feature direction may be used to interpolate an output pixel value at the pixel position under test. The validating mechanism: (i) detects whether a detected image feature direction for the pixel position under test meets one or more predetermined directional criteria; and (ii) detects whether pixel values in image regions disposed with respect to the pixel position under test in accordance with possible image feature directions meet one or more predetermined pixel value criteria.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus in which output pixels of an output image are generated with respect to input pixels of an input image, a first subset of the output pixels being identical to respective input pixels and a second subset of the output pixels being derived from respective groups of one or more input pixels. The apparatus includes a spatial filter arrangement for filtering the second subset of pixels, the filter not being applied to filter the first subset of output pixels, the filter arrangement having a response such that high spatial frequencies are attenuated in the output image.

Abstract: A television signal recording apparatus comprises a recording unit that makes recordings of television signals and stores metadata representing information in respect of the recordings including the channel and the recording time. A graphical display of made recordings and scheduled recordings is produced in which graphical objects representing respective recordings are arranged in two dimensions, ordered in a first dimension on the basis of the channels and ordered in a second dimension on the basis of the recording times. In the second dimension, the graphical objects are arranged along a time axis which includes discontinuities at times when no recording is present, the discontinuities being graphically represented by graphical symbols that are different according to the period of the discontinuity. An electronic program guide is produced with a similar format, the programs being filtered to select programs and discontinuities being present at times where there is no selected program.

Abstract: A security device and system is disclosed. This security device is particularly useful in a security system where there are many security cameras to be monitored. This device automatically highlights to a user a camera feed in which an incident is occurring. This assists a user in identifying incidents and to make an appropriate decision regarding whether or not to intervene. This highlighting is performed by a trigger signal generated in accordance with a comparison between a sequence of representations of sensory data and other corresponding sequences of representations of sensory data.

Abstract: A method of image processing for image conversion, comprises the steps of calculating a difference measure of the difference in pixel values between corresponding blocks of a current image field and a preceding image field, calculating a variability measure of the variability of pixel values from at least one of said corresponding blocks, determining whether the difference measure exceeds the variability measure, and if the difference measure exceeds the variability measure, then setting an inter-image mixing value for each pixel in the corresponding block of the current image field to indicate that the current image field should not be mixed with the preceding image field at that pixel position.

The content package comprises System, Picture, Audio and Auxiliary Items. The System, Picture, Audio and Auxiliary Items have a common format including a 16 byte SMPTE Universal Label, a Word Count, and Data. The Item Label has a predetermined length which is set to fixed value except for the byte identifying the Item to which the label belongs. The data of the System Item includes a set of Metadata blocks, which has an initial Metadata Count byte defining the number of blocks in the set. A metadata block may include a metadata Link which links the metadata of that block to the essence of the element of the Auxiliary Item with which element it is associated.

Abstract: A digital television recorder to record television programs, having a recording section to record data onto a storage medium, a filter to identify from a received transport stream, data of a television program for recording, a timer to be set with a time and, at that time, to start the recording onto the storage medium, data of the television program received from the filter, and a cache to store data of the interactive services associated with the television programs and provided in the respective transport streams. The filter identifies data of interactive services associated with the television programs, the timer starts, at a predetermined interval before the time, acquisition of the data of interactive services and storing acquired data of interactive services in the cache, and the recording section records, immediately prior to starting recording the data of the television program, the content of the cache to the storage medium.

A processor, a PDA (469) associates the reproduced distinguishing data and the said identifying data with a unique identifier, a UMID, for the or each piece of material.
