Patent number: 9409801Abstract: A method is described use of hydrocolloids for removal of organic and inorganic pollutants from a continuous stream of liquid where chemical composition of the water inhibits the reactants for linking/cross linking hydrocolloids. The method is comprising the steps of enabling said reactants present in the liquid stream and bring them to reaction with the hydrocolloid already brought to attachment with pollutants, where after flock formation allows for separation. Applications of the method are also described.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2011Date of Patent: August 9, 2016Assignee: SORBWATER TECHNOLOGY ASInventor: Atle Mundheim

Patent number: 9315394Abstract: A method for pre-separation of multi phase fluids of liquid-liquid phase and/or liquid-gas phases and/or gas-liquid phases, is disclosed, wherein one or more of the phases is suspended in water with bubble /drop/particle sizes in the sub micron and micron area and/or fine particular organic or inorganic matter is present in one or more of the phases, and where the device is placed in or in connection to a cyclone or flotation tank. The method is characterized by the fluid phases being made to flow through a tube which forms a spiral shape, in order to bring about an initial phase separation (coalescence) in the spiral shape, and the phases being led continuously tangentially out of the spiral shape in a cyclone—or flotation chamber wherein the further separation is generated. An apparatus to accomplish the method and applications thereof are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2009Date of Patent: April 19, 2016Assignee: SORBWATER TECHNOLOGY ASInventor: Atle Mundheim

Patent number: 7727404Abstract: A method for removal of dissolved materials and/or particles from a liquid stream comprising flocculation by vigorously mixing polysaccharides or hydrocolloids into the liquid stream and subsequent gelation of the polysaccharides or hydrocolloids with cations capable of gelling same. Large, strong gelled agglomerates of pollutant and polysaccharide or hydrocolloid are formed with the help of suitable cations. The gelled agglomerates are well suited to separation from a liquid stream by flotation, in a sieve, in a centrifuge, in a cyclone or via other conventional separation processes. Also described is a method for mixing of un-dissolved polysaccharide or hydrocolloid with a polluted aqueous stream by shearing the polysaccharide or hydrocolloid into the aqueous stream to improve logistics and provide economic savings in treatment of large volumes of water. Also described is the use of dilute solutions of polysaccharides for treatment of a variety of effluent streams.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2007Date of Patent: June 1, 2010Assignee: Sorbwater Technology ASInventors: Atle Mundheim Ylikangas, Christian Klein Larsen
