    Abstract: A user can designate a dataset and one or more n-grams in a graphical user interface displayed by a client computing device (“the client”). The client can send the designations to a server computing device (“the server”). The server can execute a query over the dataset based on the n-grams, and return statistics indicating occurrences of the n-grams in the dataset. The client can generate a graphical representation corresponding to the statistics. The user can select a portion of the graphical representation, which the client sends to the server. The server can respond with excerpts of documents corresponding to the selected portion and other n-grams within the documents. The client can then display a list of the excerpts and a list of other n-grams. The user can then perform further actions on the lists such as viewing the underlying documents or adding n-grams to the search query.

    Abstract: A system and method for assisting an operator in sorting mail includes a wireless headset equipped with a microphone, and a workstation that includes a processing unit, voice-recognition and voice-synthesis circuitry, and a database. In operation, addressee information spoken into the microphone is transmitted to the workstation where it is used to search the database. Destination information from a matching database record is then output to the operator on one or more of a display terminal, headset speakers, and heads-up display fixed to the headset. The convenience and enhanced capability provided by this system streamlines operator productivity and sorting volume.

    Abstract: Improved methods and apparatus are provided for sorting and arranging garments in a selected order which have been sequentially placed in an unordered sequence. The garments are identified by a marking affixed to each garment, and each garment is arranged in its identified sequence on a sorting conveyor having a multiplicity of movable carriers each for receiving a garment. Identification signals are rearranged in a preselected order, and a plurality of arranged signals are assigned to each one of a corresponding plurality of pick-off mechanisms positioned along the sorting conveyor. A computer calculates bidirectional movement of the sorting conveyor to minimize conveyor movement for positioning a garment for pick-off in its proper sequence by a respective one of the pick-off mechanisms. The conveyor is driven in a bidirectional mode to properly position the garment, and a pick-off mechanism is activated to remove the garment from the sorting conveyor and position the garment on an unloading conveyor.
