Patents Assigned to Southern California Edison Co.
  • Patent number: 6978530
Abstract: A basket assembly fixture is useful in the construction of a basket assembly for interring spent nuclear fuel rods. The basket assembly fixture has an elongate base and a pair of lifting beams disposed above the base. Lifting beam raising means are provided at both ends of the base to raise the pair of lifting beams. A transverse beam is provided below the two lifting beams and above the base. Transverse beam raising means are provided for raising the transverse beam.

  • Patent number: 6252753
Abstract: An electrical power distribution system having geographically separated plural generation stations and geographically separated loads is improved by dynamically offsetting a nominal real power operating point of a main control system driving a power control element that variably feeds electrical power onto a network of transmission lines between the stations and the loads in response to deviations in frequency and/or phase of alternating current power on the network. The generation station can include an actuator control circuit for driving the control element in response to a power setting signal, the actuator control circuit incorporating a delay component, an offset signal connection downstream of the actuator control circuit bypassing the delay component. Preferably the system further includes means for monitoring a threshold level of the deviations, and means for inhibiting the means for dynamically offsetting until the deviations exceed the threshold level.

  • Patent number: 5270957
Abstract: An element is sampled from a defined group so that targeting can be effected within a range between a range greater than a first desired frequency and not more than a second desired frequency. Two data bases are established. The second data base contains elements not selected from the first data base. The element set for targeting is defined between element sets from the first data base and the second data base, thereby creating a composite random sampling of the elements. Testing can be effected on the target elements.

  • Patent number: 5248241
Abstract: A component is provided with a relative undersize in an area to be subjected to increased stress, for instance, through temperature. The component is made of a hardenable steel. The undersize is overlaid with a non-hardenable steel thereby to provide the full size. A second layer on top of the first layer can be provided. When the second layer is metallurgically bonded in a manner that generates heat, it does not cause a heat affected zone in the base hardenable steel. Blades for steam turbines benefit from this procedure.

  • Patent number: 5196113
Abstract: Removing radioactive contaminants from liquid hazardous material such as oil, includes recirculating the material between a processing tank and a filter medium. The material is heated to increase viscosity during the circulation through the tank and filters. Chemicals including chelating agents are added to enhance the removal of the radioactive elements. Water is added to the processing tank or upstream, in a settling tank, to effect a water wash of the liquid hazardous material. A pre-filter stage upstream of the settling tank is followed by a mid-range filter stage in the recirculation loop with the main processing tank. A finishing filter stage is in the outlet from the main processing tank.

  • Patent number: 4807203
Abstract: A siren comprises a compressed air supply which is deflected by stationary deflectors to exit radially through stator ports. A rotor with spaced ports rotates between the stator and deflector thereby opening and closing the stator ports. Stationary vanes are disposed at circumferentially spaced locations, and constitute together with the deflector plate and stator and rotor housing, plenums. There are fewer rotor ports than stator ports, which generates an out-of-phase acoustical pattern which creates an acoustic combination from the stator ports of an acoustic output at a distance from the siren which is more uniform spatially. The thermoplastic seal between the stator and the rotor has minimal clearance under operating conditions having been run-in and plastically deformed at a temperature higher than for normal operation.

  • Patent number: 4390876
Abstract: An electric utility demand limiting device and method for disconnecting and reconnecting a load, such as a residential customer load, from a utility company power system. The device may include a preset demand limit against which power consumption is compared when the device is remotely enabled in response to a remote control signal from the utility company. The demand limit may be variable.
