Patents Assigned to Southern Steel Company
  • Patent number: 4841283
Abstract: A hinge construction having radiative emitter and detector concealed within the body of the hinge's knuckles so as to be in communication with each other when the hinge leaves, and therefore the door, are in a closed position. This communication is permitted through an opening in a notched collar which is juxtaposed between the emitter and detector elements, the notch being aligned with the emitter and detector when the hinge is closed. The opening of the hinge leaves rotates the collar to misalign the collar notch with the emitter and detector elements, thereby causing an electronics circuit module to form a change of state signal which may then be reported to an external monitoring or alarm system. Closing the hinge leaves to realign the notch with the emitter and detector elements will result in the sensing means being reset.

  • Patent number: 4776619
Abstract: The lock assembly of the present invention is mounted in a lock frame. A slide member is disposed for translation within the lock frame. A lock bolt is pivotally mounted within the lock frame and extends through it for engagement with a door keeper in a door frame. A lock bolt detent is pivotally mounted to the slide member for maintaining the lock bolt in a secure position when the door is closed. Actuation of movement of the slide member results in movement of the lock bolt detent away from the lock bolt followed by pivotal motion of the lock bolt as a pin on the slide member engages the lock bolt and lifts clear of the door keeper. The door is sprung open by a spring loaded plunger which extends out of the lock frame.

  • Patent number: 4691542
Abstract: A modular lock unit including a carrier frame and a heavy base plate and framework is positioned in a steel door jamb. A lock solenoid and an unlock solenoid are connected to opposite ends of a bolt cam slide extending through a vertical slot in a horizontally reciprocal bolt so that vertical movement of the slide effects camming movement of the bolt between an extended locking position and a retracted unlocking position. The slide includes a central slot oriented at approximately 45.degree. and having vertical deadlock end portions. A lock pin in the bolt extends through the central slot of the slide and enters the deadlock portion of the bolt when in either its extended or retracted position. Camming movement of the bolt is effected by the front and rear edges of the slide engageable with front and rear follower surfaces in the slot in the bolt.

  • Patent number: 4509347
Abstract: A modular lock unit has a lock solenoid and an unlock solenoid connected to opposite ends of a bolt cam slide for operating a horizontally reciprocal bolt. A centered circuit automatically locks the door when it is closed and automatically retracts the bolt in the event that any obstruction is provided in the strike in the door so as to preclude damage to the solenoid employed for extending the bolt. A time delay relay in the circuit terminates power to the lock solenoid after it has been actuated for 1.5 seconds so as to preclude solenoid damage if the bolt is blocked.

  • Patent number: 4180287
Abstract: A dead bolt and lock bolt for a cell door have the dead bolt controlled electrically from a remote control station. The lock bolt is controlled electrically from the remote station or the door location itself. A main control lever at the control station is movable to a deadlock position for mechanically deadlocking the lock bolt in its locking position and to a release position for unlocking both the dead bolt and the lock bolt. Protective circuit means prevents the dead bolt from being moved to its extended position when the door is open and a protective deadlock latch locks the dead bolt in either its retracted position or its extended position. When the main control lever is moved to an operate position, the guard or inmate can unlock or lock the door by use of a key if the dead bolt is in its retracted position.
