Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods that allow a plurality of remote patient-side surgery systems to establish surgical sessions with a plurality of surgeon-side consoles to operate on a plurality of patients. Remote surgery sessions between one or more surgical locations and one or more patient operating rooms can be planned and initiated. Approaches for efficiently and safely planning and initiating remote surgery sessions are disclosed.

Abstract: Approaches for remotely controlling a robotic surgery system located at a patient-side location are disclosed. Disclosed approaches reduce transmission delay and ensure reliable transmission for controlling a robotic surgery system from a remote location, which may be in a different city, state, or country. For surgeons, remote surgery facilitates optimal utilization of their time and provides access to a sufficient volume of patients to perfect their skills. For patients, remote surgery creates ample access to the right surgeon and the right care at an affordable price, decreases the need for travel, and reduces delayed care.

Abstract: Approaches for granting control of robotic surgery systems located at patient-side locations are disclosed. Prior to granting control, disclosed approaches verify one or more of: compatibility of a surgeon console with a patient-side robotic surgery system, that a two-way audio and/or video communication between the patient side and surgeon side has been established, and that at least one network connection between the surgeon console and the patient-side robotic surgery system satisfies one or more network condition criteria. Disclosed approaches safeguard patient safety.

Abstract: Approaches for remotely controlling robotic surgery systems located at patient-side locations are disclosed. Disclosed approaches provide a heterogeneous network for connecting remotely-located surgeon consoles and patient-side robotic surgery systems. Compatibility of a surgeon console with a patient-side robotic surgery system is verified prior to allowing the surgeon console to control surgical instruments and imaging systems of the patient-side robotic surgery system.
