Patent number: 11463157Abstract: A method for receiving an ADS-B message is disclosed including a synchronisation phase for detecting the start of the message and a decoding phase for recovering a bit stream corresponding to a block of data in the message. The synchronisation phase is based on determining a sequence of log-likelihood ratios having the greatest likelihood of corresponding to a sequence of symbols expected from a preamble of the message. Each log-likelihood ratio corresponds to a ratio between the respective probabilities that a symbol of the signal received corresponds to one of two possible values for a symbol. The decoding phase applies a belief propagation algorithm to a sequence of log-likelihood ratios respectively associated with the symbols in the block of data in the message, with an optimised parity matrix of the cyclic redundancy code of the message.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2020Date of Patent: October 4, 2022Assignee: AIRBUS DEFENCE AND SPACE SASInventors: Thibault Maisonnat, Benjamin Gadat

Patent number: 11463162Abstract: A scalable signal processing system is disclosed that processes digitized spectrum received from a constellation of satellites (or other sources), extracting multiple digital signals from multiple sources through multiple acquisition sites that is virtualized with high availability. A system of one or more antennas can receive a range of frequencies of raw spectrum covering multiple visible orbit planes, where a single antenna can receive signals from multiple satellite concurrently. This can be particularly useful when establishing a constellation satellites, where a number of satellites can be grouped together within an antenna's field of view. A group of digitizers receive the signals from the antennas and creates raw samples to form a spectrum sample pool. The spectrum sample pool is stored in a raw frame archive, where the digitizers and raw frame archive can be co-located and can also be co-located with one or more of the antennas.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2019Date of Patent: October 4, 2022Assignee: Maxar Space LLCInventors: Thomas C. Patent number: 11459132Abstract: Described herein is a method of constructing a landing pad using a rocket engine while in-flight. Among other benefits, this method can reduce ejecta that otherwise would occur during landing on an unimproved surface. While a spacecraft is hovering over an unimproved surface, the spacecraft can inject particles into its rocket engine, after which the particles absorb heat from the engine and are projected at ballistic speeds toward the unimproved surface to create a landing pad. After constructing the landing pad and waiting for the landing pad to cool, the spacecraft can land on the landing pad. Also described herein are landing pads created from such particles as they impact the surface in a disc splat mode into the unimproved surface.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2021Date of Patent: October 4, 2022Assignee: Masten Space Systems, Inc.Inventor: Matthew Kuhns
