  • Patent number: 10090771
Abstract: A power amplifier device includes first and second pairs of semiconductor switches, transformers, and a zero-crossing detection circuit for detecting a zero voltage crossing of an analog input signal. The switches of the first pair receive a respective positive and negative component of the input signal. The transformers store energy from the positive and negative components, respectively. Each transformer releases accumulated energy when the respective switch of the first pair turns off The switches of the second pair have opposite switching states and are connected between a respective transformer and a load, e.g., a transducer, speak, or motor. Each switch receives released energy from the respective transformer. A switching state of each switch of the second pair changes in response to a detected zero voltage crossing of the input signal to transfer the released energy to the load. A system includes the device and the load.

  • Patent number: 9841145
Abstract: An axial piercing mechanism for a pressurized gas canister includes a housing, electric motor assembly, pushrod assembly, and lancet. The housing defines one or more radial exhaust ports and coaxial internal cavities. The electric motor assembly and pushrod assembly are disposed in the respective first and second cavities. The pushrod assembly is coupled to the electric motor assembly and is rotatably driven along the longitudinal axis thereby. The lancet is coupled to the pushrod assembly. The housing includes a second end that receives or couples to a sealed end of the pressurized gas canister proximate the lancet such that the electric motor assembly, when energized, causes the pushrod assembly and lancet to translate along the longitudinal axis, pierce a sealed end/diaphragm of the canister, and release pressurized gas through the exhaust port. A system includes the axial piercing mechanism and the pressurized gas canister.

  • Patent number: 9612085
Abstract: A payload launch system includes a launch tube, payload, rocket tube, pressurized motor assembly, and control system. The motor assembly has a launch actuator and an accumulator housing containing compressed gas. The accumulator housing defines a vent opening having a closure. The control system transmits an actuation signal to the actuator in response to a launch request signal to open the closure and cause a discharge of pressure into the launch tube. This causes the rocket tube to launch from the launch tube to a threshold altitude in a single gaseous thrust phase. A method includes deploying a launch system, transmitting a launch actuation signal to the launch actuator via a control system, and opening a closure to allow compressed gas to enter the launch tube, thereby launching the rocket tube from the launch tube to a threshold altitude in the single gaseous thrust phase.

  • Patent number: 8674622
Abstract: A light-emitting diode (LED) module includes a body assembly, a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) having LEDs, and a power conditioning board having a controller. The PCBA and power conditioning board are encapsulated by the body assembly. The power conditioning board is driverless, i.e., characterized by an absence of a switching power supply, and includes a rectifier and reducer. The reducer detects an AC waveform zero-crossing and phase angle of AC line power, reduces the rectified voltage, and selectively turns the LEDs on or off using corresponding signals. The controller receives the reduced peak-to-peak rectified voltage from the reducer, adjusts operating parameters of the reducer in response to the phase angle and zero-crossing to illuminate or extinguish some/all of the LEDs and increase the power factor of the LED module, and adjusts the limiter to provide a constant power level to the LEDs.

  • Patent number: 5414406
Abstract: A vehicle horn is disclosed with an electronic switching circuit which operates at a switching frequency equal to the resonant frequency of the horn. A sweep frequency oscillator generates a switching pulse train. A transducer and signal conditioner produces a horn output pulse train at a frequency equal to the acoustic output of the horn. The horn output pulse train is applied to one input of a phase comparator. The output of the sweep frequency oscillator is applied to the other input of the phase comparator. The phase comparator generates a stop signal for the sweep frequency oscillator when the input signals are in phase with each other which signifies that the horn is operating at its resonant frequency.
