Patent number: 5943713Abstract: A sensor assembly for use with a sink having a faucet hydraulically connected to an electrically operated on/off mechanism for controlling the flow of water from the faucet into the sink. The sensor assembly includes a short focus optical sensor mounted adjacent the sink which directs an infrared ray toward a user's legs for detecting the presence and absence of a user in the immediate vicinity of the sink. The senor assembly also includes an adjustable pipe clamp for connecting the sensor assembly to the drain tube of the sink, and a ball-and-socket flexible connector for interconnecting the optical sensor to the adjustable clamp. The optical sensor is electrically connected to the on/off mechanism, via a conduit provided in the ball-and-socket flexible connector, so as to turn on the faucet when the presence of the user is detected and turn off the faucet when the absence of a user is detected.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1998Date of Patent: August 31, 1999Assignee: Speakman CompanyInventors: Graham H. Patent number: 5918811Abstract: A water discharge device in the form of a showerhead is disclosed having multiple features including a rotating shutoff valve incorporated in the body of the device. Variable discharge patterns are achieved by rotation of a handle on the side of the device. These patterns include a vibrating spray, a columnar spray pattern and cone shaped spray pattern. All patterns are achieved at low flow rates.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1997Date of Patent: July 6, 1999Assignee: Speakman CompanyInventors: Willard A. Denham, Christopher G. Miedzius

Patent number: 5893387Abstract: An electrically controlled faucet is disclosed which is operable by pushing a button or placing hands within the operating range of a sensor. The faucet is mounted to a sink deck or like surface using specially configured gasket means which insure against slippage of the faucet on the deck. The gasketing means provide special channels through which electrical operating wires can be securely passed from the faucet to operating means below the sink deck. These operating means include a solenoid valve that controls fluid flow through the faucet and a temperature control valve fluidly linked to the solenoid valve. Solenoid disabling pressure buildup in the line linking the temperature control valve and solenoid is bled through special bleed means in the temperature control valve inlets.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1998Date of Patent: April 13, 1999Assignee: Speakman CompanyInventors: Graham H. Paterson, Willard A. Denham

Patent number: 5535781Abstract: A flush mechanism is provided for a urinal, wherein the working components are provided within a two-part, sealed housing. A button is provided on the cap portion of the housing to flush the urinal. Depression of the flush button signals a battery-powered solenoid to open for a preset amount of time, allowing water into the mechanism from a supply line. The flow of water in each flush is further regulated by an adjustable flow-control valve. All working components can be accessed for replacement or maintenance with only a minimum of disassembly of the flush mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1995Date of Patent: July 16, 1996Assignee: Speakman CompanyInventors: Graham H. Paterson, Willard A. Denham

Patent number: 5412816Abstract: A surgical scrub sink includes a faucet mounted over a tub with an electronically operated on/off mechanism for controlling the flow of water from the faucet into the tub. A short focus sensor is mounted at the tub and directs a beam toward the front of the tub at the height of the user's legs for detecting the presence and absence of a user in the immediate vicinity of the tub. The sensor is operatively connected to the on/off mechanism so as to turn on the faucet when the presence of the user is detected and turn off the faucet when the absence of a user is detected.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1994Date of Patent: May 9, 1995Assignee: Speakman CompanyInventors: Graham H. Patent number: 5216765Abstract: A portable gravity fed eye/face wash comprises a water container having a fill opening and a closure cap at the upper end of the container. A recessed storage cavity on a front wall of the container accommodates a spray head assembly secured to the container for movement between an outwardly extending operative position and an upwardly extending inoperative and stored position. The spray head assembly includes a pair of spaced apart L-shaped elongate conduit members with upwardly disposed outer legs angled toward one another. When the spray head assembly is in its outwardly directed operative position water flows from the container through the spray head assembly and out of spray heads at the ends of the outer legs of the L-shaped elongate conduit members. Alternatively, when the spray head assembly is oriented upwardly into the storage cavity in the front wall of the container the flow of water is terminated.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1991Date of Patent: June 8, 1993Assignee: Speakman CompanyInventors: Graham H. Patent number: 4585175Abstract: An adjustable volumetric control and balancing element is positioned in a flow passageway at the juncture of a supply line and two discharge ports. The element has a beveled end face in the flow passageway for directing fluid from the supply line to the discharge ports. Adjustment of the position of the beveled end face within the flow passageway controls and balances the flow of fluid directed to the discharge ports.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1984Date of Patent: April 29, 1986Assignee: Speakman CompanyInventor: Paul J. Patent number: 4445529Abstract: An adjustable valve handle is disclosed which permits wide variation in location of a recessed plumbing fixture relative to the wall behind which it is placed. This wide range of adjustment is accomplished utilizing a stem over which a handle with an elongated bore is placed. Securing means in the handle permits placement of the handle at numerous locations along the stem without the necessity of cutting, breaking off or otherwise altering the stem.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1981Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Speakman CompanyInventor: Carmen J. Patent number: 4117979Abstract: A showerhead having an axially shiftable valve means to deliver either a continuous steady water spray or an intermittent or pulsating water spray. The head has a peripheral chamber through which water flows to provide the continuous steady shower spray and an inner chamber through which the water flows to provide the pulsating shower spray. The valve means travels only 0.200 inch in shifting from the pulsating spray position to the continuous spray position. In the pulsating spray position, the valve means blocks the path of water flow through the outer chamber by a seat-seal arrangement to direct the water into and through the inner chamber. In the continuous spray position, the valve means blocks the flow of water through the inner chamber by a bore seal arrangement to direct the water path through the peripheral chamber.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1977Date of Patent: October 3, 1978Assignee: Speakman CompanyInventors: Carmen J.
