Patent number: 11333612Abstract: Accordingly, disclosed are various connectors for connecting a colorimetric sensor array to a sample bottle. These connectors allow the colorimetric sensor array to be attached to a sample bottle after autoclaving, and introduce the headspace gas to the colorimetric sensor array at the appropriate time. Examples of these connectors include (1) a needle based connector that punctures the septum of standard bottle to allow gas flow in a chamber with a colorimetric sensor array, (2) a valve based connector that attaches to a sample bottle and when the valve is opened the headspace gas has a path to diffuse to contact a sensor array, and (3) a connector that includes a breakable seal that when broken puts the headspace gas in contact with the colorimetric sensor array.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2017Date of Patent: May 17, 2022Assignee: Specific Technologies, LLCInventors: Richard Shu-Chung Huang, Paul A. Publication number: 20210310040Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for species and/or strain specific identification and assessment of susceptibility of microorganisms based on the response of sensors in a colorimetric sensor array to metabolic products of the microorganism. An exemplary method according to an embodiment of the present disclosure can include culturing a sample that contains microorganisms. The sample can be in a medium which is exposed to a colorimetric sensor array. A test substance can be introduced to the sample. The method can assess a susceptibility of the microorganisms to the test substance based on a change in at least one sensor in the colorimetric sensor array. Sensors in the colorimetric sensor array can change in response to volatile organic compounds produced by the microorganisms after addition of the test sub stance.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2021Publication date: October 7, 2021Applicant: Specific Technologies, LLCInventors: Pragya Singh, Raymond Anthony Martino, Paul A. Publication number: 20180252701Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for strain-specific identification and assessment of susceptibility of microorganisms based on the response of sensors in a colorimetric sensor array to metabolic products of the microorganism. An exemplary method includes culturing a sample containing microorganisms in a medium and in gaseous communication with a colorimetric sensor array. Sensors in the colorimetric sensor array are exposed to volatile organic compounds produced by the microorganism. The method then includes assessing a resistance of the microorganism to at least one substance. The resistance is assessed based on a response of the sensors in the colorimetric sensor array to the volatile organic compounds produced by the microorganism.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2018Publication date: September 6, 2018Applicant: Specific Technologies, LLCInventors: Paul A.
