Patent number: 6545749Abstract: The invention relates to an electronic distance measuring device which measures the propagation time to and from a target of a shor pulse of a trasmitted electromagnetic beam from a radiation source comprising a microchip laser, and comprising objective optical system (6; 16; 21); for the reflected beam from the target and a detecting unit (9; 13; 20) to which the received beam is transmitted. Means (4, 5; 15) is provided for making the transmitted and the receiving electromagnetic beam coaxial. Means (6, 10, 12; 14, 16; 21, 22) are also provided for focusing the received beam onto the detecting unit (9; 13; 20). A means (3) makes the transmitted electromagnetic beam simultaneously as narrow and as collimated as possible in order to get a well-defined radiation measuring spot on the target.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2001Date of Patent: April 8, 2003Assignee: Spectra Precision ABInventor: Leif Andersson

Patent number: 6421627Abstract: The invention relates to a device and to a method for determining the position for a working part of a tool on a working machine. A position determining apparatus is placed in a defined position on the working machine in order to determine the position of this place in a coordinate system fixed in space. The position-determining apparatus comprises partly a relatively slow determining device (1, 4; 1, 4a, 4b; 53, 50, 51), which at time intervals measures the actual position of the machine , and partly a relatively fast determining device (6; ACC1, ACC2) which reacts on position changes of the machine in order to calculate and up date the determination between the said time intervals.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1999Date of Patent: July 16, 2002Assignee: Spectra Precision ABInventor: Lars Ericsson

Patent number: 6381006Abstract: Spatial positioning method and device are disclosed using at least one stationary station means positioned stationary in a field to be measured and providing referent site(s) in an area to be set-out or staked-out, and a portable position sensor means having at least two sensor elements, the position of each sensor element being indicated by a co-operation between the sensor element and said at least one stationary station means. In order to make said spatial positioning system able to measure to measuring points inaccessible for direct measurement a distance meter is provided in the portable position sensor means able to emit a visible beam. The visible beam is directed towards an inaccessible point to be measured at least during an alignment operation towards said point. The sensor elements are provided in the position sensor means in predetermined positions in relation to each other and to said distance meter.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2000Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Spectra Precision ABInventor: Karl Ramström

Patent number: 6263004Abstract: A Q-switched laser, which is pumped by at least one pump source (8), providing pulses. The laser comprises two mirrors (3,5) providing a laser cavity, in which a gain medium (2), a saturable absorber (4) and a controllable active modulator (6) is situated. Loss can be introduced in the modulator (6) by a control device (10). In a first phase, said control device (10) introduces loss in the active modulator, setting a threshold inversion density band to a level (B) high enough to be above the actual inversion density in the gain medium means. In a second phase, the control device lowers said loss instantly, which will lower the threshold inversion density band to a level (A) lower than the actual inversion density in order to activate emission of said Q-switched pulse.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1999Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: Spectra Precision ABInventors: Magnus Arvidsson, Bjorn Hansson, Carsten Lindstrom, Martin Holmgren

Patent number: 6175328Abstract: A surveying system is presented comprising a surveying equipment and a radio navigation unit comprising a radio navigation antenna and a radio navigation receiver, both removably connectable both on the survey equipment and on a survey object. The object is provided with at least one target for the surveying equipment to be directed to. A removable panel co-operates with the radio navigation unit and with the survey equipment. The panel comprises a computer provided with a program system adapted for operating both the radio navigation receiver and the surveying equipment.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1999Date of Patent: January 16, 2001Assignee: Spectra Precision ABInventors: Lars Ericsson, Leif Andersson

Patent number: 6115112Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for measuring distances through the atmosphere against a target through propagation time measuring. Measuring light signals are transmitted towards a target and light pulses reflected by the target are received. The distance measuring includes a coarse measuring procedure and a fine measuring procedure. During the coarse measuring procedure at least one time point is fixed after which the measuring signal from the target can be expected to appear. During the fine measuring procedure a number of measurements are performed. The signal information collection during the fine measuring procedure takes place in a matching time space after the time point fixed during the coarse measuring. Preferably, the measuring during the coarse measuring procedure takes place with one or a few measuring pulses and measuring during the fine measuring procedure with a number of measuring light pulses.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1998Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: Spectra Precision ABInventors: N. Patent number: 5828057Abstract: The invention relates to a method and arrangement for target seeking, where a rotatable instrument emits an electromagnetic radiation and automatically searches for a target reflector by detecting whether reception occurs of electromagnetic radiation received by the target reflector and reflected back to the instrument. In the beam path of the electromagnetic radiation, polarization of the electromagnetic radiation, polarization modulation of the polarization direction on the electromagnetic radiation by alternately changing it, and polarization of the electromagnetic radiation take place in sequence. At least on of these steps is performed at the target reflector. Checking of the detected reflector is carried out by testing if the received radiation changes at the same rate as the modulation of the polarization direction. Only targets are accepted which give different signal strengths at said rate for the received radiation.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1997Date of Patent: October 27, 1998Assignee: Spectra Precision ABInventors: Mikael Hertzman, Anders Naslund
