Patent number: 12247880Abstract: A spectrometer, such as a Raman spectrometer, adapted for analyzing a complex sample is provided. In an example implementation, the spectrometer may be able to determine one or more spectral characteristics of an inner subsurface layer or region of a complex sample (e.g., contents of a container). In one embodiment, for example, A spectrometer includes an excitation source configured to provide an excitation signal; an optical system configured to direct the excitation signal toward a sample and receive a spectroscopy signal from the sample. The optical system may include a spatial filter configured to separate or isolate at least one first portion of the spectroscopy signal from at least one second portion of the spectroscopy signal and pass the at least one first portion of the spectroscopy signal. A detector is configured to determine at least one spectral feature of the at least one first portion of the spectroscopy signal.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2021Date of Patent: March 11, 2025Assignee: METROHM SPECTRO, INC.Inventors: Keith T. Carron, Shane A. Buller, Mark A. Watson, Sean Patrick Woodward

Patent number: 11874167Abstract: A spectrometer is provided. In one implementation, for example, a spectrometer comprises an excitation source, a focusing lens, a movable mirror, and an actuator assembly. The focusing lens is adapted to focus an incident beam from the excitation source. The actuator assembly is adapted to control the movable mirror to move a focused incident beam across a surface of the sample.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2022Date of Patent: January 16, 2024Assignee: Metrohm Spectro, Inc.Inventors: Mark Watson, Shane Buller, Keith Carron

Patent number: 11828649Abstract: A device for performing Raman spectroscopy measurements that incorporate Raman Shift calibration and related method for carrying out the Raman Shift calibration are disclosed. The device comprises of one or more Raman shift reference materials with one or more Raman bands, the positions of which are pre-determined to a high degree of accuracy within a useful temperature range. The device further comprises a sensor to measure the temperature of the one or more reference materials to provide accurate reference values for the Raman shift calibration. When used with the measured spectrum of the reference materials, an accurate Raman Shift calibration function of the device can be generated.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2022Date of Patent: November 28, 2023Assignee: METROHM SPECTRO, INC.Inventor: Jun Zhao

Publication number: 20150097120Abstract: A sensor and associated methods wherein a bolt or rod stem includes a flow path through and across the stem. A source of radiation within the stem is configured to direct radiation through the flow path and a detector subsystem in the stem is configured to detect radiation passing through the flow path. A head includes electrical conductors for the radiation source and detector subsystem resulting in a compact, inexpensive sensor.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2013Publication date: April 9, 2015Applicant: Spectro, Inc.Inventors: Aniruddha S. Weling, Russell S. Girgenti, Matthew B. Fratkin, Patrick F. Henning

Publication number: 20140151560Abstract: A route based analysis system includes, in one version, an infrared spectrometer subsystem configured to produce a spectrum for oil introduced to an oil sample cell. The system displays a route including assets with oil to be inspected. The type of oil used in each asset is determined. For each asset on the route, one or more oil property methods specific to the oil used in the asset are located. The spectrum of each asset's oil is analyzed using specific methods in order to produce oil properties.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2013Publication date: June 5, 2014Applicant: Spectro, Inc.Inventors: Yuegang Zhao, Raymond E. Garvey, III, Robert David Corak, Eric J. Olson, Matthew B. Fratkin, Patrick Henning

Publication number: 20140123734Abstract: A viscometer assembly includes a first plate with a rail configured to constrain fluid thereon between its edges by surface tension. A second opposing plate has a surface spaced from the rail by a predefined gap of constraining fluid to the rail by surface tension when the rail is inclined and gravity pulls the fluid along the rail. The kinematic viscosity of the fluid is determined as a function of the predetermined gap and the time it takes the fluid to flow along the rail.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 13, 2014Publication date: May 8, 2014Applicant: Spectro, Inc.Inventors: Patrick F. Henning, Thomas G. Barraclough, Brian A. Tweed, Eric J. Olson
