    Abstract: In a flow sensing device in which flow is measured by the linear displacement of a moveable bobbin within a throat, the bobbin contains a cylinder and piston arrangement, with the piston linked to the same linear displacement sensing device as the bobbin. Fluid pressures upstream and downstream of a calibrated orifice parallel to the throat, is applied to opposite ends of the piston. Low flow rates are measured by the displacement of the piston, with movement of the bobbin together with the piston taking over the flow sensing function at higher flow rates.

    Abstract: A system for, and a method of, detecting the proximity of a source of an alternating magnetic field, such as that emanating from power transmission cables, comprising a sensor coil sensitive to the magnetic field under detection, processing means to derive from the signal induced in the coil a warning signal indicative of the proximity of the magnetic field under detection, and cancelling means operable to cancel the earth's field in the region of the sensor coil. The sensor coil may be one of a pair operable to provide a signal representative of the directional heading of the magnetic field under detection, with respect to the system, which embodiment is particularly useful in helicopters for detecting the proximity of power cables.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a fluid supply system and seeks to provide a simpler, safer but reliable system than at present known. The fluid supply system comprises a multi-charge solid propellant gas generator and a fluid expulsion unit integrated into a single unit, the gas generator being provided in a cap (8) for a chamber (1) having a gas portion (3) and a fluid portion (2) and a movable partition (4) between these two portions operable to expel fluid from the chamber when the gas generator is rendered operative. The system also comprises ignition control means (22) operable to control the ignition of the solid propellant charges (13) when required to give a fully controllable system output.The system can be designed for supplying under pressure fluids such as hydraulic oil, fuels, oxidants and water and is particularly useful in aerospace applications.

    Abstract: The invention provides a gyroscope employing a sensitive element rotated by a hysteresis motor and which has an improved bias repeatability, the bias arising from vibration of the sensitive element imparted thereto by the hysteresis motor. An identifiable point associated with the sensitive element (9) is sensed by first sensor means (37, 38, 67, 71) and a pole vector associated with the hysteresis motor (6) is sensed directly or indirectly by second sensor means (64), the outputs of these sensor means being applied to comparator means (73) which is operable to compare the phase of the pole vector (V.sub.p) with respect to the identifiable point. Control means (76, 79) are also provided which are responsive to the output of the comparator means (73) and operable to adjust the phase of the pole vector (V.sub.p) with respect to the identifiable point to a required relationship, the gyroscope further comprising means (73), for maintaining that required relationship once established.
