  • Patent number: 4714226
Abstract: A swivel housing (22) at the lower end of a davit (10) is introduced into an open side of a socket (20). The socket (20) is mobile and it includes hook members (136, 140) at its lower end which fit through openings (60, 62) in a base member (18) which is incorporated into a rooftop (12). The socket (20) is then slid sideways to place the hook members (136, 140) below hook engaging portions (90, 94 or 92, 96) of a top wall (56) of the base member (18). Then, a filler member (146) is inserted into a portion of the opening (60, 62) which is vacated by the sideways shifting of the socket (20), to block unwanted sideways shifting of the socket (20) in opposite direction. The swivel housing (22) at the lower end of the davit (10) is inserted into the open side of the socket (20) while the davit is in a horizontal position. Then, a pivot pin (188) is inserted and the davit (10) is swung upwardly about the pivot pin (188). Then, a lock pin (196) is inserted to lock the davit (10) in an upright position.

  • Patent number: 4538705
Abstract: A pair of stanchions (12) is mounted on a roof (4) for rotation about spaced apart vertical axes (18). Each end of an elongated platform (22) is connected to an upper horizontal portion (16) of one of the stanchions (12). Platform (22) is raised by winches (24). Workers (W.sub.1, W.sub.2) positioned on platform (22) push and pull on horizontal portions (16) to rotate stanchions (12 ) and move platform (22) into a suspended position outboard of the structure (2). Each horizontal portion (16) is provided with an outwardly extending lever (34) having a pull line (32) at its outer end. Workers (W.sub.1, W.sub.2) use levers (34) and pull lines (32) to assist in rotating stanchions (12). Workers (W.sub.1, W.sub.2) alternate pushing and pulling on the horizontal portions (16) of their respective stanchions (12).

  • Patent number: 4496027
Abstract: A portable motor outrigger for suspending scaffolding in which there are a pair of spaced generally parallel, substantially A-frame-shaped supports (30, 32), having a beam (26) extending therebetween. Each A-frame has two plates (100, 108), one adjacent the lower end of one leg (76) and the other adjacent the lower end of the other leg (78). The plates are adapted to be positioned on a surface (12) to support the beam (26) through the A-frame supports. A wheel (104) is mounted for rotation in a lower part of the A-frame and is positioned to be substantially in vertical alignment with the center of gravity of the weight on the support. A caster (98) depends from an end (86) of each A-frame, the wheel and caster being above a roof surface when the plates (100, 108) support the A-frames on the roof surface. A jackscrew (92) is mounted on one end of each A-frame adjacent the caster and is adapted to raise and lower plate (100) adjacent the caster with respect to the A-frame and the caster.

  • Patent number: 4198724
Abstract: The window washer is suspended from the top of a building by a suspension line and moves up and down the line while cleaning the side of the building. Cleaning liquid is dripped onto brushes which scour the surface to be cleaned. A squeegee in wiping contact with the wetted surface wipes the cleaning liquid from such surface and collects it generally at a leading edge portion of the squeegee. Then, collected cleaning liquid is removed by suction.

  • Patent number: 4096922
Abstract: An outrigger beam projects outwardly beyond the edge of the roof, to serve as an overhead anchor for the suspension line of a suspended staging. A support leg depends from the beam and makes contact with the roof inwardly of the roof edge. At a location further inwardly from the roof edge, the outrigger beam is secured to an elevated support rail, but in a manner permitting both axial and sideways angular movement, as needed, for proper positioning of the outboard end of the outrigger beam relative to the side of the building. The support rail counterbalances the weight of the staging. The outrigger beam is connected to the support rail by a carriage which permits (1) the outrigger beam to be pivoted vertically about the support rail, for raising the support leg up off the roof, and (2) sideways movement of the tilted outrigger beam lengthwise of the rail.
