  • Patent number: 9139318
Abstract: The packing device having a supply frame on which a spring is provided. A cover member supply part, which is formed of a supply roll on which a cover member having a certain width, is wound and rotates, and a direction change roll for allowing a cover member to be supplied on an upper side of the spring, with the spring being placed on an upper side of the supply frame. A forming guide is provided and one end is extended at a tapered angle in a conical shape, while surrounding an upper surface of the cover member, as being closer to an end of the supply frame, and the other end surrounds the spring excluding the portion in which both sides of the cover member are overlapped. A pair of pressing rollers is provided for pressing and bonding the cover members and one driving roller for transferring the packed spring.

  • Patent number: 4545603
Abstract: A wire ring binder is formed of a continuous segment of wire bent in an undulating form in which finger sections extend in a parallel array from a colinear array of backbone sections. The width of the fingers approximates the length of elongated apertures in sheet material which is to be bound. In the case wherein the spacing between apertures is equal to the aperture length for maximum strength and ease of perforation, the width of the fingers is slightly less than the spacing between fingers to provide clearance in the apertures. Each finger is formed of two sections of wire joined together by an arcuate terminating section which overlaps into the spacing between backbone sections.

  • Patent number: 4373558
Abstract: An illustrative embodiment of the invention produces comb-like bookbinding wire stock in a manner that significantly reduces wire breakage during manufacture as well as unequally stressing or stretching or marring the surface finish of the wire from which the stock is formed. An indexing unit drives a pair of forming arm members that pivot under the control of a cam surface. These members align and wind a wire strand onto pins that protrude radially from a pair of parallel, axially spaced rings. Operation of a reciprocating side pusher and center pusher shaft press the wire strand onto the adjacent pins and a wire flattening roller presses one side of the partially formed stock against the adjacent pin surfaces to produce the "back" for the comb-like stock. A rotating pinch roll "sets" the fingertip portions of the tines on the stock.

  • Patent number: 4020516
Abstract: The apparatus includes a binding station, means for supporting the straight fingers of a flat comb-like wire binder so that the fingers with the tips thereof foremost are directed toward the binding station, means engageable with the binder for pushing the fingers thereof into the station, and means at the station for progressively bending the fingers into circular form, the supporting means including means to prevent the portions of the binder fingers between the pushing means and the bending means becoming bent under the action of the pushing means, and the pushing means pushing the bent fingers through the perforations of the book to be bound and until the tip ends thereof become situated in the roots of the fingers. The bending means comprises two die members and a mandrel. The mandrel may be a single rod-like member, or may be a split mandrel composed of elements provided on the two die members.
